In the end, Clark and Lois come home and are unaware of the night's activities. But something is real and out in the corn fields. The eye holes look almost like glasses! Could this be the pseudo-Clark?? So a nice little done-in-one horror story building on the 'odd little town' plots we've seen before and giving Jon and Kathy a nice spotlight. Consider this issue a quick palate cleanser in between major story arcs. Jon Kent takes the spotlight as he and Kathy venture into the ominously named Dead Man's Swamp to tack down a missing cow. Superman #17 is the type of issue that shows why this series is so special. Rather than relying on the normal Superman adventures, Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason take chances to explore different genres and finding a way to make them fit with Superman's world. Jon and Kathy's adventure in the horrifying Deadman's Swamp is a great example of this as there was never a point that it did not feel like a Superman story. Tomasi and Gleason's story is helped by Sebastian Fiumara art style that brings the Slenderman-like tale to life. Read Full Review

This was the kind of issue best suited for reading in a trade. It's weird and a fun twist from a normal Superman issue, but it seems unlikely to be important anytime soon. This is a strange ass one-shot that focuses on our Superboy and while I love seeing little Jon doing his thing, this issue was just all over the place with its crazy factor and at the end of the day it seems that this was just here as a place holder until we can get to our big Superman crossover coming up.  Hopefully something does come of the events here because after all that, I need some clarification and some satisfaction.   Read Full Review

Not sure why this issue is being considered a disappointment, it was a lot of fun. I would recommend that you read Action Comics 973-974 before reading this issue. I found it makes Superman 17 so much better leading into the upcoming Superman Reborn crossover and clarifies the identity of the "slender man" terrorizing Jon and Kathy.

Another great issue. Now it should be Superboy 1 but It was really good. I feeled like I was a good episode of Goosebumps from the 1990 television series.

I do not understand why people disliked this issue, but for me it felt like a typical Tomasi's Superman storyline. The issue was meant to be mysterious and will probably set up something in a few issue, or maybe even in Super Sons. I like Jon and have fun reading stories that he is in and leading.

This was a crazy, spooky little one-shot that was a lot of fun. I expect we'll see this mysterious swamp man/creature in the future, but this story in itself was well-done and entertaining. I like the interaction between Jon (who I sometimes find grating, but not here) and his friend Kathy. And Sebastian Fiumara's artwork was excellent.

a very creepy and unsettling vibe going on that i really enjoyed.
great moments between Jon and Kathy and a spooky figure that followed them throughout the issue.
i really enjoyed this issue a lot.

This issue disappointed me. The first pages promise a Stranger Things-y story, but, the plot is quite confusing and the ending is rather rushed. I wish they had taken the opportunity of this one-shot to develop the relationship between Jon and Cathy more. The new artist, Sebastian Fiumara, has a lovely style, but I found some scenes oddly illustrated. My interest for this series is decreasing and I've been considering dropping it for a few weeks now. The Reborn arc, which I'm looking forward to, will be decisive.

Disappointment. Art was okay and I usually like one-shots but the story wasn't interesting, in fact it was kind of confusing. Hoping Superman Reborn brings this series back on track because the last handful of issues have been mediocre.
