One of the better 50th issues from DC Comics this year. The art is spectacular and the conclusion satisfying in all its Christmas Carol similarities. Read Full Review

If youre a Superman fan longing for your favorite character again, hes back, and this is a must buy. Even with some of the DC house style, the essence of the character is there, and I am welcoming it with open arms. Read Full Review

Because it's the fiftieth issue, one would expect a nod to the historical. The addition of that fourth artist is a nice wink to long time readers, while the depiction of Clark throughout the issue is one of a classic hero that most people will recognize. The balance between retaining the essence of the hero while making him a three-dimensional character is evident in "Superman" #50. The ending is a thrilling promise of further adventures for the hero and his family. Read Full Review

I thought that Superman #50 was a great read. The “Savage Dawn” series was a great read period! If you're a fan of Vandal Savage I definitely suggest reading this series! Throughout the entire book we have action packed fight scenes and the storyline was great as well. I'm looking forward to see how exactly Lois and Clark rebuild their relationship in future books. It's almost nonsensical to bother with a buy/don't buy on this one. If you read the first 49, you're going to get this one no matter how weak the ending is, and if you're new to the comic and wondering what it's all about, 51 is where it's at. You don't want to get in on the last issue of a major arch, after all, you want the first issue of a new one. But still, this is Superman, so even if it's a bit of a let down, it's one of the best comics out there. Let's be honest about one thing – Superman doing what he's always done isn't such a bad thing. There's a very good reason he's still around after all these years. Read Full Review

    Comicsverse - Sean Bartley

Like last week's DETECTIVE COMICS #50, SUPERMAN #50 is a “monumental issue” only because of the number. The story inside the book is far more pedestrian, and doesn't say anything interesting or fresh about the character. Not only that, but it never gives us the payoff to Superman finally getting his powers back. Unlike DETECTIVE COMICS #50, the art here isn't good enough to carry the floundering story. It's often distracting how different characters look from page-to-page, and even though the action sequences look great, the rest of the book suffers from pages too stuffed with panels to breathe. It's unfortunate that Gene Luen Yang won't be the writer to close out SUPERMAN before the title ends with issue #52, as this issue isn't a fitting conclusion to his time with the character. At the end of the day, though I didn't feel that this issue achieved the celebratory air it aspires to, the Porter art, combined with the fun moments in its fight scenes, manages to ensure the issue is still enjoyable. Read Full Review

It's ultimately just disappointing to see that the issue didn't solely focus on that dynamic. Still, it's a mostly satisfying way to finish off a strong, albeit bloated, crossover and finally see a new status quo for Superman put in place, one that pays homage to the best years of the character without ignoring the excellent storyline readers have just witnessed. Weird Science - Eric Shea

The majority of this finale seems to be filled with a nonsensical situation that doesn't serve a purpose to me because we've already established that Superman is a hero that doesn't give up and after that's all done, the issue is wrapped up pretty quick and is a bit unsatisfying after everything that we've been through with this story arc.  The art in this issue is great though and I loved seeing our hero back in action again, even if he comes off as a numb skull here.  Read Full Review

    Newsarama - David Pepose

There's a great beat in Superman #50 where Gene Luen Yang cuts to the heart of what could make for a great Superman story - namely that choices have consequences, and gifts have responsibilities, and only a man as great as Superman would take his powers and use them for something other than violence. Unfortunately, it's bogged down in a flurry of action as well as an inexplicably Christmas Carol-esque series of visions, as as Yang is joined by a quartet of artists who don't quite mesh together. So I'll end this review with a plea to Superman. Please find creators who love Superman and put them as the creative team on the book. Superman has lasted 75 years because the elements that work work. So find creators who will embrace the mythos rather than reject it. Read Full Review
