  DC used to do this kind of story all the time when they were branding their "Tales from the Multiverse" as Elseworlds. While the wild West became enough of a go-to for characters that it became kind of a cliche, it's been a long enough that it feels fresh here. Actually, there's a saying about tropes being tropes because they're good and this was definitely a reminder of how fun a melding of superheroes and rawhides can be.   The issue offers a chance to see Scandal Savage as sheriff, Bane her deputy, Deadshot a hired gunman, Catman a wandering Man With No Name, Ragdoll the town fool and Jeanette a prostitute. When Junior, in this reality a rich trapper with eyes on the town's silver mine, hires Slade Wilson – most dangerous gun in the west – to lead a full on assault on the town, this ragtag group of miscreants is forced to band together to save themselves and the town. Sounds like a blast, right? It is. The issue's only real weak spot is the storytelling of Jim Calafiore, who stumbles from time to time transitioning between scenes and actions. Still, this one's well worth the cover price, even if I'm sure some will decry the lack of explanation. Read Full Review

  The Weekly Crisis - Ryan Schrodt

  As of this week, this is the sixth issue that I've pegged as a potential Single Issue of the Year candidate and, quite honestly, I now think it is the book to beat. This issue works on every single level of its craft and is incredibly entertaining to boot. There is absolutely no reason for anyone to miss this book. If it weren't so practically impossible (and financially irresponsible), I would buy all of you a copy to enjoy the crap out ofthis book is that good.   The one thing about having villains as the main characters is the slippery slope they have to walk. Have them too villainous and the readers will back off, make them act too much like heroes and the readers will be equally miffed.   Definitely a great read, but completely random and leaves readers hanging in regards to the main story that has been put on hold for two straight issues for what amount to filler issues.
