Phantom Stranger: Futures End #1

This is the perfect finale to Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger. Although it likely serves as more of a what-if piece than a full promise of things to come, it's still a well thought-out, phenomenally told, and beautifully presented story. It does exactly what DeMatteis has done every single time the Phantom Stranger has been pulled into an event: Use the event to boost the Stranger's story. DeMatteis' script, with the dialogue, is every bit as great as Didio's plot here. I won't go into details but suffice to say that this issue packed a hell of a lot of punch than I'd thought it would, and that it is my favourite Phantom Stranger issue to date. Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger: Futures End #1 is a great send-off and final issue for this series. Even if its not the official ending to this character, it might as well be all things considered. The story is simple but engaging, the writing is solid, the ending is fantastic and the artwork fits the comic very well. J.M. DeMatteis and Dan Didio really brought it home with this book and I look forward to seeing where this character's future lies in his next book, Trinity of Sin. Read Full Review

All in all Trinity of Sin: The Phantom Stranger " Futures End #1 is a great way to end the series. It wrapped up everything that happened since the beginning. But leaving it open for readers to read more even if it's in the present or the future. It's a must read for readers of Phantom Stranger who didn't like how the last issue ended before the Futures End special. I will miss the series now that it's over but I won't miss it too much as the entire Trinity will be back withTrinity of Sin later this year. Read Full Review

Plot lines were at the forefront and DeMatteis and Didio weave through them with real skill. The writing works to establish The Stranger anew, and leaves us satisfied in how he left off. Theres even a wink at the Pre-New 52outfit which becomes a spectacular nod to the fans that the Stranger has become who he was always meant to be. The art by Phil Winslade was serviceable enough, but thankfully was not the focus. It was a touching goodbye to a series and it's characters, and the Stranger. While this title really does nothing to tie it in with the Futures End event, it sure as hell works great as a final issue to the series. I was really hesitant to call any of these Future End titles the final issue of any of last month's cancelled books, but if they are anything like this issue, then bring them on and give us some closure to those books. Just a phenomenal story and what a way to keep the Stranger around while changing his dynamic in the land of Five Years From Now. I loved this series and I'm sorry to see it go, but if it has to, then this is the way to do it. Read Full Review

Overall, the story and art is completely average and only serves to please Phantom Stranger fans as it really doesn't add anything new to the series, only that The Phantom Stranger finally has a good day for once. The series doesn't really feel complete, with unfinished plot points that look like they will never be resolved. Read Full Review

A very nice issue, which jumps to the end of PS's journey for redemption. It works pretty well as a stand-alone, but needs some aspects of the series to feel the full weight. I look forward to reading the BLIGHT TPB, and if its good i may read the new "Trinity of Sin" series in TPB!. . . . NOTE: DC promised $3 AND $4 covers. i only saw the $4 ones, over 3+ shops! SCAM?!? NOTE: After re-reading this, after reading the BLIGHT event, im giving this book an extra .5 points.

I didn't love the choices for the council and how well they got along and how they didn't seem like their evil selves. That said, it was intriguing and good.
