Phantom Stranger #7

Hopefully, Ha stays on for a little, and I know unfortunately DiDio will leave soon but we will have DeMatteis which guarantees a good story. All in all, one of the better reads each first week of the month. Read Full Review

Issue #7 does eventually bring the story back around to Phantom Stranger's ongoing quest before the end. The writers deliver the closest look at The Question we've seen in the New 52 so far. Here again, I'd hate to imagine how he would have been portrayed without DeMatteis handling the dialogue, but he's able to bring just enough nuance to balance the character's more overbearing traits. the worst that can be said about this issue is that the cover effectively spoils the final page cliffhanger. I've said before that this book is a guilty pleasure of mine, and I said on a recent Super Massive Podcast that it's moved away from that status because I just really enjoy everything about this book. That being said, this is a slow issue, and it may be a bit tough for new readers to get through. Yes, Jack Ryder's dialogue is weird and he's a hard character to digest, but to me, that's part of the charm of THE PHANTOM STRANGER. It's a book that's out of place because the character is out of place. Overall, I recommend this issue. THE PHANTOM STRANGER continues to be one of my favorite DC reads. Read Full Review

This book continues to seed the underpinnings of the DC Universe, adding in oddities from dark, forgotten corners and borderline magical creations to sew itself deeper into the fabric of the DC Universe. Sure, some of this could be seen as comic book sensationalism, but with DeMatteis guiding the wild notions, "The Phantom Stranger" #7 seems much more intent on direction while adding to the universe as it proceeds on its path. Maybe, once DeMatteis becomes the sole writer of The Phantom Stranger, it'll go in some interesting directions, but for now, the only potential hook the big Trinity of Sin event will have is whether or not it'll monkey with the reality of the New 52 again, and maybe shake out some of the missteps. Pandora's connection to Flashpoint makes that hope hard to dismiss. In the meantime, we'll endure. Read Full Review

. . $3, 20pgs. Too many damn ADs! . . . I am enjoying this series a bit more asi go on, the dialog is fun and daring in this, odd sidetrack which could be a nice 'done in one' that encapsulates the bastard the Stranger can be. It also throws on the non-twist as shown on the cover, tho it is a charge for me to see The Questions finally arrive! Didio & J.M.Dematteis are doing good work here. Gene Ha, Pepoy & Layon put in some good art for this issues, esp. a great monster splash and crash near the end. Killer gatefold cover, scene does occur!
