Comic Book Bin - Philip Schweier

Chang's artwork seems not quite up to snuff in this issue, almost as if its lost something. I wasnt even sure it WAS Chang until I read the end credits. But even weak Chang is better than many other artists drawing comics these days. Read Full Review

    Geek Dad - Ray Goldfield

A tense, non-stop showdown with one of the deadliest villains Nightwing has ever faced in Bludhaven, it's a strong opening act " but as an only act, it sort of feels like this run won't leave a lasting stamp on Nightwing once it's done. Read Full Review

Perhaps, that is my main gripe. While we have a strong voice and visual for Dick Grayson and Nightwing, it's a story that seems more and more suited for Gotham and not Bldhaven. Read Full Review

This is a solid issue thanks to strong artwork and a fun scene with a squid. The rest of the plot is forgettable, though. Read Full Review

This issue is very heavy on the action and is a breezy read with fast advancing plot from Sam Humphries. Read Full Review

Nightwing #40 has its issues, especially regarding tone and Dicks joyless behavior, but the action and the Judge himself manage to make up for most of the drawbacks. This one gets a recommendation. Check it out. Read Full Review

Despite an exciting premise, intriguing villain, and flashes of absolute brilliance, this confusion keeps Sam Humphries from ever taking Dick Grayson to the next level. Read Full Review

    Batman-News - Joshua McDonald

Nightwing #40 is" ok. When all is said and done, the entire chapter feels like a lot of regurgitation to fill a mandated issue order for this arc. Beyond that, we run into the familiar problem of pacing and emphasis " opportunities that are unfortunately becoming the expectation. Humphries has developed great supporting characters, a strong, interesting villain, and an interpretation of Bludhaven that feels more like a character than I can ever recall it being" and somehow, still, the story is just "ok." I can't help but feel that had a little more planning and attention to detail gone into the narrative early on, Nightwing: The Untouchables would have been excellent instead of mediocre. Weird Science - Jim Werner

I just can't wrap my head around the Judge as a villain and the story suffers because of it.  Sam Humphries seems to be stuck between telling a horror story and a fun one and in the end, it's not a good mix.  I loved the art here, but there isn't anything else I can recommend.  If you've enjoyed it up until now, god bless you, but everyone else should just hold out until the book changes hands in May. There is a lot of great things going on. Beautiful art and some exciting action, but I'm having difficulty investing in these new characters. A strong ending could change my outlook on the story arc as a whole, but for now it's been just solid. Read Full Review

Comic Book Revolution - Kevin Lainez

    Mar 12, 2018

Nightwing #40 was another disappointing chapter in the "Untouchable" story arc. While Sam Humphries does a solid job writing a Nightwing as a hero you don't want to mess with the same can't be said about everyone else involved in this story arc. The execution in the development, or lack thereof, for the Judge and the new supporting cast for this series has left a lot to be desired as everyone has been portrayed as throwaway characters. Unless something big happens Humphries run on Nightwing will be as forgettable as the characters he has introduced. Read Full Review
