Nightwing #3

Kyle Higgins (Batman: Gates of Gotham) does a fantastic job with this issue as he has done since the first issue. He is really giving us a look at Dick like never before. He not only nails his characterization but takes him back to his roots. This is one of my favorite books of the New 52. Eddy Barrows art is also another reason. He brings to life the entire story. His panels provide the superb feeling Nightwings character gives off but brings life to the smaller situations Dick is involved in. When I met Kyle Higgins at NYCC, he said Dick Grayson was his favorite character of all time. As a result of his issues, I can see why. Read Full Review

There is some hoopla over two pencilers, Eddy Barrows and Eduardo Pansica, working on this title. I thought their styles blended together well and I almost didn't notice the change and it does not take away from this issue. Nightwing is getting better and better every month and I expect that trend to continue. Read Full Review

For a book that was riding so high for its first half, it definitely is a letdown that there is an artistic switcheroo midway through issue #3, which takes the issue down a peg or two. With that said, Nightwing, from a story perspective, is still firing on all cylinders. If you come for the story, you should find yourself satisfied. Read Full Review

"Nightwing" is a pleasant afternoon read; it's not at the top of the stack, but it's a good enough read to keep sticking around. Nightwing is an okay comic, in fact it's been the most average in quality read of all the bat-books 3 months in a row, but it's not a good sign when I read the comic an hour ago and had to open it back up to remember how it ended. It's well-drawn and the writing has set up a foundation for something really great, but for now it's so middle-of-the-road, so anodyne that it's far from being a must-read. Read Full Review

To be 100% honest with you, after I put this comic down the first thought that came to mind was simply, “Meh.” This issue didn't accomplish anything. The villain we all knew wasn't dead came back, and the guy we never suspected was involved with Haly's death was cleared of any potential foul play. Was this issue awful? No. Will I remember this issue 3 minutes from now? No. It was the very definition of a forgettable comic book. Read Full Review

Like Tony Bedard and J.T. Krul, Higgins is turning out to be one of those writers whose ideas are appreciable, but whose execution just doesn't quite cut it. Still, he weaves enough mystery in the plot to keep you invested for a while longer. Read Full Review
