When you cant get Ed Benes to draw, you get his clone.Hes a better artist, but Im annoyed at the thought that the editors feel theymust serve reader a clone of their star artist in order for readers to besatisfied with this issue. Luis may be a better artist, but there are visualeffects, such as the display of power of Red Tornado that he cant pull off,the way Benes can. The backup story from Len Wein (another of the Origin & Omens featurettes) finds Kendra and Speedy at odds, supposedly a portent of a growing fracture. We also see that Dr. Light will soon join the team. We dont know why, though, as she seems zombified in this issue. This crossover has been too mysterious for its own good. Read Full Review

McDuffie's work on JLA has been uneven thus far—hampered by leftover plot lines from Meltzer's run and DC-dictated crossover events. Hopefully, next issue's pseudo-reboot will provide him with the opportunity to craft his vision of what the Justice League is meant to be. Read Full Review

Even though McDuffie has been on this series for years, it still doesn't feel like he's had a chance to tell a real story. It's been all event tie-ins or character introductions -- the Tangent characters! Milestone! -- and nothing in terms of small stories that matter or larger stories that have a chance to evolve. If "Justice League of America" is supposed to be the flagship superhero team book of the DC Universe, then it's not living up to its responsibility. OK. I get it. Dwayne McDuffie REALLY likes these Shadow Cabinet guys, and he especially seems to like Icon. Good for you Dwayne. I like the Justice League of America. I want to read about the JLA, not some losers I've never heard of before. That's why I buy this comic series month in and month out. Unless things change drastically(maybe a change in writers is due)I'll be dropping this series very soon, something I thought I'd never even entertain doing during Brad Meltzer's brilliant early run on this series.
