All in all, GREEN LANTERN #44 is a solid issue, in a solid arc. The trend of alternating between "important" issues and "standalone" issues may get a little stale, but that's simply a theory. So far, there's so much to like that this ride can last a while. Read Full Review

GREEN LANTERN #44 is a pit stop that breaks up the main story; however, it's done exceptionally well and reminds the reader that a Green Lantern's duty is more than blasting ships in the middle of space. A grounded story gives the book a nice break, even if it is a bummer that it's interrupting the main story. The issue is full of fun, bright action and is overall a ton of fun to read. Green Lantern #44 is a fun "one and done" single issue story which has a well balanced narrative hampered by a less harmonious mixture of multiple artists. Reminiscent of a "wagon train to the stars" adventure the uneasy relationship between Hal Jordan and Trapper evolves a little bit. A nice well needed pause in Robert Venditti's "Renegade" Green Lantern era gets four out of five lanterns. Read Full Review

While I would have loved to finally get to either the story about planets turning to stone or the Green Lantern Corps' disappearance, what we get here instead is some excellent character development that really enhances the dynamic to this "Renegade" story as we built an actual team for our former Green Lantern to count on in the future. Some might see this issue as filler, but when you examine the issue closer one can see that Venditti is slowly building the cast around Hal while simultaneously laying the foundation for Hal's inner struggle with the overwhelming power of Krona's gauntlet. Also Darlene's quips continue to remain one of the highlights of the series so far. Read Full Review

"Green Lantern" #44 isn't the worst of the issues in this run where Hal is underground and working by his own code, but it also isn't going to be the most memorable. It feels like an inventory tale, buying time and measuring out pacing for something else. I don't know what that "something else" is, but hopefully Venditti and crew find it soon and revitalize this title once more. Read Full Review

I like this issue, it does nothing to advance the upcoming Black Hand vs. Relic story but it gives Hal that vagabond through space feel and I can dig it. To be honest, this issue felt similar to a Star Wars comic and I mean that as high praise. So far Hal's new direction is something I can believe and enjoy unlike say the new direction with Superman in "Truth". I can genuinely follow the transformation Hal has gone through and it shifts just enough plot points to break status quo while staying true to Hal's core as a character.
