Gotham Central #17

The murder mystery is moving along nicely, but the real enjoyment of this issue comes from the fact that a fair bit of the issue is centered around fleshing out a pair of detectives. I mean while I could be making a fuss that we're seventeen issues into this title, and this issue marks the first time these two detectives have been given some time in the spotlight, but I can't really complain when the issue does such a solid job of grabbing and holding my attention as we're introduced to this pair of detectives. Now I found Detective Burke to be a bit familiar, but he does make for a wonderful partner for the Detective Dagmar, who I find to be one of the more engaging characters I've come across in quite some time. I really love the chemistry all these pairs of partners have. Last issue, Sarge and Crowe were awesome together. This time it's Burke and Procjnow and I absolutely loved their dynamic together. The case itself is interesting enough, but the real draw of this series is the characters. They're extremely well-written and I love that we get little insights into their personal lives; their aspirations, their vices, their struggles, their family issues... it makes for such a compelling read. Also, detective Burke is a real one.
