Flash #37

Scott McDaniel drops in to handle the issues art and he hasnt missed a beat from his Nightwing heyday. The Flash is a high energy title well suited to McDaniels layout and drawing style making for a very energetic and exciting looking issue. The mystery continues to unfold this issue and Williamson is making this an arc worthy of The Rogues and their latest scheme is already shaping up to be another high point for this series. The Flash was one of the cornerstones of DC's Rebirth era, and seems to be one of their strongest titles as the DCU moves beyond Rebirth. Hopefully we will see Barry back with Iris to fully restore the title to its classic greatness. Read Full Review

Having read much of Joshua Williamsons Flash, I now understand how he crafts story arcs. He introduces a current conflict and problem that Barry Allen has to deal with before resolving it a few issues later. The pacing is all classic super hero action and surprise revelations that careless readers would have missed but old timers would anticipate. In many of those stories, I fall in between surprise and anticipation. Williamsons entire stories on The Flash are part of one larger canvas but where that leads is anyones guess. Read Full Review

Josh Williamson turns in another fine script and another entertaining chapter of The Flash. His characterization of Barry Allen remains pitch perfect and I applaud his new take on Captain Cold which is a breath of fresh air. The one problem with this issue was the disappointing fill-in by Scott McDaniel with screwy anatomy and bad lighting which took a lot of oomph out of Williamson's otherwise enjoyable arc. Joshua Williamson puts the fun on hold a bit to push his story forward and while I understand the reasons, I like the fun.  We do get a bit of the Rogues, but this issue is mainly about the plan to capture the Flash.  The plotting, art, and dialogue were all fine, it just didn't have the spark that the last issue had and so I have to score it a bit lower.  Read Full Review

This issue was ok. The characters have always been the strongest aspects of the series and it remains to be true here. Even if the current story feels too familiar and underwhelming at times. This feels like a road block between the more interesting plots such as Meena and Black Hole or even the Wally/Flash relationship. Read Full Review

This reads like a typical Flash vs Rogues story. Especially with this McDaniel's art (which was a nice throwback to 10-15 years ago), it's a really fun to read issue.

Nothing all that special here. This is a typical Flash arc but it was still fun because after all it is the Flash. So far I believe that the first arc with Godspeed was by far the best I have read during rebirth however I feel as though the creative team have had a hard time catching lighting in a bottle a second time (pun very much intended).

The following part is a little better. I liked the bank job turning bad and seen Freeze cut a deal. I like him been clever. I'm not a fan of the fact he is younger than the version I like (Rogues Revenge era). But I didn't care for the rest of the characters. Cover - I really like it, and nicely connected to the end. 2/2 Writing - A little better but I'm feel a little distant of it, strangely. 2/3 Arts - Mcdaniel is good, but just after Porter and even if his character are less freeze, he suffer of the comparison. 2.5/3 Feelings - I will forgot it very quickly. 0/2
