Flash #13

I won't lie, I loved this issue. It wasn't anything special, but it just felt like a classic Flash/Kid Flash story. The holiday theme was perfect and what Kid Flash did for both Barry and Iris as well as Tar Pit and his family seemed to blend well with it. And we got a nice little present in the form of the return of Captain Cold! It may just be because he's one of my favorite Flash Rogues but that's ok, I want to know what these plans are and what he's going to do with them. As for the art, it is a little too clean for my tastes, but is still really well done. Can't deny talent when you see it. I did enjoy the way Kid Flash and Tar Pit looked though. If you're a fan of The Flash TV series who has yet to give the comics a try or a regular reader who just hasn't gotten around to this wonderful book, The Flash #13 proves a wonderful opportunity for you to correct your mistake and start enjoying one of DC Comics' strongest titles in the Rebirth era. Although this was largely a standalone issue, the Kid Flash character spotlight made it a lot of fun. And the return of a Flash fan favorite Rogue suggests things are hardly about to get boring for Central City's speedsters. Read Full Review

The Flash #13 isn't the most daring of issues, but it is one of the most enjoyable. It's the pause for breath before things kick off with Captain Cold coming back to Central City. And whilst we can't wait to see Snart again, this issue was definitely needed for the characters to flourish on their own for a little before things get complicated once again. After being disappointed by the Flash book for the most part of Rebirth, I am so glad to be able to recommend this issue.  Sure, it's a downtime, setup type of issue, but it made me smile and that means something to me.  Neil Googe's art is a great fit for this story and I suggest everyone check this out...especially those who dropped the book already. Flash #13 is another nice issue to take in for the value in what goes on in a superheroes life outside of kicking and punching. The importance of love, friendship, family that can drive some of the most genuine of intentions. Read Full Review

This issue is a very sweet Christmas storythat allows us a bit of a breather from the heavy action of the first few months of the series. The Flash #13 is a great way for the series to close out 2016. Though the two narratives clash with each other when it comes to pacing, they each stand strongly on their own and come together for a satisfying closing sequence. If you wantan exciting Flash story, this might not be the issue for you. If you've read or seen any Christmas story ever, then you'll know exactly what's going to happen during this installment. However, the engagingcharacters can help you to look past all of this. THE FLASH #13 is an issue I would recommend to anyone who is a fan of the Flash and Christmas stories. Very simple and fun issue that sets up one of the best couples in the DC universe. Wally was the most likable he has ever been for me in this issue, which is saying a lot coming from me. Lastly, I am looking forward to seeing how the Rogues will get introduced in the next few issues.

I expected very little from this issue and it surprised me a lot, both in writing and art. The story was fun and creative. Wally's parts were the best, but, as always, Joshua Williamson's pointless captions break the pace of these dynamic scenes. From the beginning of Rebirth, Barry's love life has been quite tumultuous and I really hope this issue is the end of this situation. Moreover, Neil Googe delivers a rather solid artwork, but some facial expressions of Barry and Iris are a bit odd. The cliff-hanger is very intriguing and I'm eager to read the next arc.

Comic Book Review (8/10) “Great” *Great jumping on point.* The Flash #13 “Date Night” Writer: Joshua Williamson Penciller: Neil Googe Plot: Barry and Iris are trying to rekindle their romance and on a date while Kid Flash protects Central City. During his patrol Kid Flash runs into Tar Pitt. Can Kid Flash stop him without Barry’s help? This was a fun issue and both the storylines of Barry on his date, and Kid Flash trying to stop Tarr Pitt were enjoyable. My favorite joke of the year came from the lips of one of the kidnappers when his friend says “then I guess we gotta take care of the kids.” The reply to that statement is comedy gold.  Watching Kid Flash also using his resources and skills to take down Tarr Pitt was great to read. Here is to hoping that Williamson keeps this light hearted tone in his Flash books, because Flash is a much more enjoyable comic when it has some levity in it and the previous issues have been pretty dark. This is my first time seeing Googe’s art and I have to say that I also enjoyed his cartoon-y style art. It fit this Christmas issue very nicely and it helped keep things light hearted. more

[ART: 9 | STORY: 7.5 | WRITING: 7.7 | TOTAL: 8 (~8)] A solid issue for this series. Williamson has greatly improved his writing in my opinion, bit I still think he overdoes it on the captions. This issue had some good art from Neil Googe who I wouldn't mind seeing on art duties more regularly as he captures the tone well. I like how this issue really focused on the characters, too. The ending also leaves me very excited for the upcoming arc

FLASH #13 may be my favorite, post-NEW 52/REBIRTH issue of this series. Neil Googe (not to be mistaken for Arnold Jackson nemesis, The Gooch) turned in some, particularly solid pencils this issue. I think that, if Mr. Googe can maintain this level of quality on a monthly basis, he'd be the ideal candidate to replace Jonboy Myers on TEEN TITANS. The script from Josh Williamson has the best dialogue he's written since taking over this title (which leaves me especially hopeful because his writing usually ranges from above-average to excellent on every other book he writes...but he's had some trouble with forced situations and dialogue on THE FLASH). My break-out star of FLASH #13 had to be Kidnapper #2, as portrayed ny Marty Feldman..."yo u mean like, adopt them?" Good issue. SCORE: 8.1 more
