Dark Knight News - Nat Brehmer

Gordon knows how to take this insane situation and apply it to his own set of skills. That's what's so impressive about this issue, even if some of the actual fighting doesn't work for me, just because I haven't warmed up to the Bat-Armor yet. At this point, I probably won't. That's why it's so important to at least treat the character right, and that's what was done here. Read Full Review

    Graphic Policy - Kenny Coburn

Overall, Detective Comics is nothing more than a filler issue and Justice League cash in. But, once the monster of the months story progresses, albeit at a slow pace, there is some heart and tragedy to the tale. The problem is, it becomes too little too late to redeem this comic book. P.S. This is where I would insert a forced punchline, CSI: Miami style, but I couldn't come up with one… And trust me, I spent WAY too much time trying to come up with something here, so I apologize. I'm disappointed in myself for not being able to deliver to you here. Feel free to outdo me by inserting your own punchline here, in the comments below. Read Full Review

    Weird Science - Jim Werner

This issue is filler to get this book to next month's Robin War.  Whether you read this book or not, you can skip this issue and miss nothing at all.  I do like Marcio Takara's art, but the story is a forced, ridiculous and completely forgettable.  It may not be the story that Tomasi wanted to tell, but when your name's on the cover, you have to do better.  That day will come soon, it's just not today. Batman-News - Brandon Mulholand

When I read a story like this, I think about a little kid who loves Batman going into a comic book store for the first time to pick up their very first Batman comic. How exciting! Then they go home and read this…. Is this really the kind of thing we want people to associate with Batman? Any issue could very well be someone's first. It's important to give people a reason to come back for a second one. I was under the impression that DC wanted to encourage new readership. Maybe people are intimidated by the history of comics, but I'm guessing they would be even more off put by a book that doesn't even give you the bare essentials of what a Batman book should be. Excellent issue that brings in Jim Gordon's skills as a detective and experience as a father to light. A great little two-part filler arc that does exactly what it needs to do.

What is meant to be a rite of initiation for Jim Gordon feels more like he's written a self-insertion story where in all his unremarkableness he just so happens to be able to save the day. I can understand having Batbot run around Gotham for a few issues, and even Superman/Batman feels somewhat plausible, but I can't see the Justice League ever turning to Jim as a Batman replacement, let alone this soon.
