Apr 10, 2008Countdown to Final Crisis #3 was a slightly better than average read that would have been much more enjoyable if it wasn't for the horrid handling of Mary's character and some poor dialogue. At least Countdown to Final Crisis #3 will appeal to fans who enjoy a good old fashioned brawl between two heavyweights in Darkseid and Superman. The one thing that really sticks in my mind as we race to the end of Countdown to Final Crisis is that this story could have been such an enjoyable and intense read if DC had made this a 12 issue mini-series. Apr 10, 2008Major Tom to Ground Control: Send me up a few more homages like Atom's trip through Jimmy, a la The Brave & the Bold #115, circa 1974. Goofy stuff like that, coupled with the fun art of Freddie Williams II makes this book a bit more palatable. Like Giant Turtle Boy Jimmy Olsen! Oh, boy, this is gonna be good. Read Full Review

Apr 09, 2008I was somewhat impressed by the art, at least. On the whole, Countdown has managed to outdo 52 in the art category on a semi-consistent basis. At his best Freddie Williams II manages to evoke Ed McGuinness' bombastic work. The rest of the time, characters randomly develop over-sized heads and clench their teeth far too much. I guess I'd clench my teeth constantly if I were trapped in a book as bad as this. When you consider that just one year ago 52 was delivering the big World War III climax, this is just pathetic. The Weekly Crisis - Kirk Warren
Apr 09, 2008Finally, the Atom is inside Jimmy's head, breaks Darkseid's control chip and Jimmy then grows into a giant lizard-man thing and we end with him about to fight Darkseid. God, I hope the big conclusion to Countdown isn't an "epic" battle between Jimmy Olsen and Darkseid. I don't think I could handle it. Read Full Review
