As always, this complicated series slowly reveals more of the overarching plot that Mark Shaw has for taking control of the world. However, with only 2 more issues left, I wonder of that is enough time to tie up all the loose ends. Read Full Review

Checkmate #4 seems to be picking up momentum, but can it keep it up? The team is forced to take action, but is it Superman that will save the day? Read Full Review

Although he appears in the cover, we don't get much from Superman here other than acting as a sounding board for his wife and helping Lois Lane make a discovery which seems important (but I'm not sure how it fits into this storyline). The issue ends on a cliffhanger where Leviathan comes after Checkmate suggesting things are finally heating up. Read Full Review

Checkmate #4 is an improvement on prior entries in the new series but so far this series has done little to really make a dent on the history of these creator's collaborations. Read Full Review

If you've been reading Checkmate this far and have been enjoying it....... Well, there's no reason to stop now because you'll be getting the exact same thing that you've been getting from the previous issues, except this time around you'll be getting the answer to the Snowman's Ticket..... it's just too bad that the reveal means nothing if you follow other books at DC Comics. Checkmate feels like a comic in its own pocket universe. That would help explain why characters sound so inconsistent. If only there was an easy solution for the plodding pace and frustrating lack of developments. Read Full Review

Reading this is like watching a wounded animal slowly die. You know what's going to happen and even though you don't want to watch, you have to see it through. There is seldom any action, and without mincing words, it's just a boring story.

This is such a chore to get through, that it makes me want to quit comics altogether. It's just so bad, and I keep reading it because I read all the rest like a fool. But man, this is so lame. I don't know what anyone is thinking when it comes to this book. The dialogue is all over the place. If I had to give you a synopsis of the story thus far, it'd be incoherent, because this book is incoherent. The art is so bad compared to Maleev's other work. We get a reveal here that was revealed several months ago over in Justice League. I just don't know why this exists.
