Catwoman #43 is a lot of fun thanks to the well-written dynamic between Catwoman and Harley Quinn. They're going on a side adventure from the main quest, but the real adventure is the bond and friendship they share. Paired with great art, this is a thrill ride of an issue. Read Full Review

Howard throws in quite a few sharp, little details as swift and lightly fun as the issue is. Her treatment of Harley is clever. Its been established that the character knows the reader is there. Theres more than one instance of her subtly brushing up against that wall in the course of a really, really enjoyable issue. There isnt a whole lot of thematic depth to whats going on, but its a fun, little journey that Howard is embarking on in Catwomans latest. Read Full Review

Catwoman takes Selina out of Gotham proper for a compelling, fun, and dangerous road trip that allows for great action but also all the same deep emotional character development and fun that makes this book a delight month after month. As far as I know, the issue closes with what may be the first comic book appearance in canon DC continuity of one particular character. It'll be exciting to see how their place in the rest of the story plays out, as I expect it to mirror their first appearance in that “other” Batman media. Read Full Review

I love a good gal pal story, but this issue felt like a completely different series from what Tini Howard and Nico Leon created a few months ago. I'm not sure if DC Comics pushed Harley Quinn onto the creative team or if Howard chose to bring in ol' Killer Quinn herself, but it didn't work. The cliffhanger brought my excitement back for the series, however, as it features the first appearance of a villain who originated in Batman: The Animated Series, much like Harley Quinn did. Catwoman #43 is a strange issue that longtime readers may want to skip if they lack an interest in either Harley Quinn or roller derby. Similar to a recent Nightwing arc, the issue's only relevance to the series overarching narrative is that Black Mask is now sending assassins after Selina. I'm not opposed to exploring Harley and Selina's relationship to each other, but the sudden shift in tone and focus may turn away readers who are more interested in Selina's ongoing war with Gotham City's underground. If you'd told me ten years ago that in 2022 we'd be getting a Catwoman comic with a very realistic portrait of queer female friends who are kinda gay for each other but already taken but still down to cuddle in bed and do roller derby, I'd have mistakenly assumed that the 2020's were going to be really great and fun. I appreciate this comic so much!

This was the weakest issue of Howard's Catwoman thus far, but it was still entertaining and fun. This was a simple girls trip for Selina and Harley that also had some mystery and lingering effects from the opening arc sprinkled in so this isn't completely labelled as filler. I'm not really against filler content, though, as it can be some of the best content when done right.
