Catwoman #47

This issue is a terrific read. I have tried reading New 52 Catwoman in the past but I never really latched onto it but since there is a new team on this one, I decided to check it out. And I am thrilled that I did because this is wonderful. The book contains great action, art, character and is just fun to read. I highly recommend checking this out. Read Full Review

Tieri and Inaki deliver a strong debut to their run on Catwoman, but it's far from perfect. While Tieri's dialogue is really strong, I'm concerned his plot won't be as bullet proof as we'd like. Regardless, it's still a fun read, and will keep you entertained! Read Full Review

While this issue isn't the whole sale change that some wanted or feared, I appreciated what Frank Tieri did to ease his way into the book.  Catwoman may be back in black, but Tieri continues writing her as the smartest cat burglar in the room and Inaki Miranda's art certainly makes her the prettiest. It's understandable that this issue was heavy in the setup department, but a twist ending and a how is she going to get out of this cliffhanger has me excited for the next issue.  If you are a Catwoman fan of any kind, this is good jumping on point so get in on the ground floor and enjoy the ride. The scene in this issue that sums up this whole story's place is Selina sitting down to dinner with her fence, eating pizza with red wine. Which is exactly what Tieri and company are doing here. They know that Valentine and her team were bringing us to Michelin-starred restaurants for the last year, but pizza is what they do, and coincidentally, pizza is what I want. Read Full Review

I'm not sure if the series is going to try to do anything as radical and ambitious as the last. But this is simply a good heist comic. I really enjoyed it. If you want to classic Catwoman comic get a reading! Read Full Review

All in all I am going to give the new Catwoman a good rating. I enjoyed this issue as much as any of the old arc though there still needs to be supporting character development. This issue was a reintroduction to Selina the thief. I am hopeful that as the story progresses more characters and more complexity will develop. Read Full Review

Seeing Catwoman back in her element is a tad bittersweet, which if ithad been handled with a tad more originality could have been a much better book. As it is, Tieri will have to go some not to fall into the repetition of previous issues and stories. Read Full Review

Dammit, why revert back to the same-old, same-old? Catwoman used to be the joke of all the DC New 52 titles and then Valentine came, shook things up and made Catwoman arguably one of the best DC books available on the shelf. Although this isn't as bad as the Nocenti issues, the stakes just don't seem that high like they did when Catwoman was having mob wars with Sionis, Penguin, and Eiko. What's worse this issue acts as if the past 12 issues had no bearing on Selina's character at all. She literally goes back to being a cat burglar with no lingering effects from the consequences of Valentine's run.

It's a very predictable and "safe" Catwoman story. The art's well-done, and the writing doesn't overextend itself. Nothing bad about it, it just doesn't live up to what came before.

This probably doesn't deserve a score as low as this, but coming off of Valentine's sublime Catwoman run, every flaw here is magnified tenfold. The exchange between Selina and her fence was where I realized the transition from Valentine to Tieri wasn't going to be graceful. The dialogue felt artificial and cliche, plus we're introduced to a character who, as far as I can tell, made their first appearance this issue and yet has apparently been Selina's fence for years? You shouldn't need to create such a contrivance when you already have so much juicy material to work with. We're also introduced to a seemingly established mobster this issue, but again, having just had such a substantive crime family-themed run, no effort seems to have been m ade to weave him into the tapestry Valentine created, or explain how he was affected by the events of the previous issue. Meanwhile, the art would be fine aside from some truly bad attempts at make-up (seriously, Selina's eye shadow was horrendous this issue), but the way Miranda draws facial expressions is quite hammy, which magnifies the cliche tone of the dialogue. If the characters were actors, I'd say they were over-acting. All in all it's not a terrible issue, but seemingly flicking the reset-switch on Valentine's run seems like a huge, huge mistake after everything it achieved. more
