We won't know how the final surprise (and the series itself) works until the next issue, but so far it's been a fairly enjoyable book, if a bit dragged-out. Not great, but not bad, either. Read Full Review

Its terribly difficult to talk more about this issue without getting into spoiler territory, so Ill leave you with this. I thought it was a very solid penultimate issue, I feel like the threads weve been following are converging very well, and I anxiously await the finale in two weeks. Read Full Review

Don't let my negative words fool you, Brightest Day #23 is an important issue not only for this series, but for the DCU in general. The effects of this book could be very far reaching and lead to some great stories down the line that once again star Swamp Thing in the DCU. With that said, from a dramatic standpoint, Brightest Day #23 doesn't hit the mark. It feels like it's just going through the paces to get to the awesome shockers. Read Full Review

Though Brightest Day has boasted very few unqualified great issues in its run, it has generally been a series that deserves some slack for its flaws. Even so, I cant let it off the hook for the nature of this most recent outing. With an out-of-the-blue reference to a character that has been out of the public consciousness for the bulk of many readers lifetimes, theres no doubt that quite a few fans have been left high and dry. Fortunately there's still the big conclusion to come in two weeks, because this is an uncharacteristic dip in quality for the series. With elements being hastily yanked back in (hello, Captain Boomerang) and explanations left and right, hopefully that phase is now completed in order to give us a stronger conclusion. Right now, though, it's an underwhelming beginning of the end. Read Full Review
