Batman / Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: II #2

Im really digging Freddie Williams' art in this series, and I feel that his cartoony yet detailed and kinetic style is perfect for a story featuring the mutants of the Turtles world and the more straightforward superheroes of Batmans world. I especially like his imposing take on Bane, especially in the final scene with Bane leaning over Baxter Stockman with biceps three times the size of Stockmans head. Read Full Review

The story moves forward with twists and turns. The plot is well-paced and the artwork is phenomenal! A great story and a joy to read. The coolest thing is seeing the crossover of these characters while it maintains the integrity of each respective book and tone. While this issue is largely a setup for what's to come, now that Bane has assembled an army, between the art and top notch character interactions I find the series continues to be worth a definite look. I can't say that I really enjoyed Batman TMNT II #2 that much. The story was okay, but it read really fast and it felt like not that much really happened. The art continues to be good; Freddie Williams II definitelyhas a dynamic style that sets him apart from other artists and is uniquelyhis own. Maybe it is because I am a Turtle fanboy and I do not really care for Batman or like the Turtles playing second fiddle to him, but this series so far is not keeping me very interested or excited to read it at the moment. Tynion has found much more stable ground with his second issue. There's still some shaky dialogue here and there, but the spirit of the first crossover is much more evident here. Bane's influence in New York provides for some compelling drama, most of the jokes land the way they should, and bringing in different characters from both properties opens up new storytelling opportunities. I mean, if the idea of seeing Bebop and Rocksteady groveling at the feet of Bane as he's surrounded by Foot Clan members whose masks bear a resemblance to his own doesn't excite you, I don't know what else will. Second part of the story. Batman goes to Ras and he's happy to help (Weird ...). A team-up between Donny et Damian (Love hating damian). Then we see what happen with bane. Nice, I would have loved seen him fight but nice. The part with mickey is a not really great, but the rest is very good. Shame Batman didn't tell april she do a really good job & remember her from Lois. But I have hope with 4 issues to go ^^ I really liked my reading. I want more. Cover - The regular perfect 2/2 Writing - Really good stuff 2.5/3 Arts - Love the arts 3/3 Feelings - I can't wait but I will have to ^^ 2/2

Don't get me wrong I like this issue, but...the art seems a bit off this series. The turtles' fingers in a few panels last issue looked kinda weird. And the colors are very saturated and just throws me off on how dark dirty and gritty these characters can be. I wish there would have been a bit of a scuffle between the 3 strong big bads. But on the flip side I am still really enjoying this second installment of these 2 universes mixing.
