Batman / Superman Annual #2

Like the final play of this year's Superbowl, Batman/Superman Annual #2 gave a thrilling ending that will thrill some and horrify others. And this time, it isn't just the city of Seattle that's horrified. The questions surrounding whether Superman can be who he is without his powers are all neatly answered. But the answer isn't as comfortable as some probably wish it were. At the end of the day, doing the right thing for the right reasons is a great power to have. But not being bulletproof means it's a lot easier for the wrong people to ruin your day. Read Full Review

Batman Superman Annual #2is a must read that gives us an epic fight with villains who would normally never fight Superman along with Batman being being that necessary helping hand throughout. It also sets the groundwork for more Superman stories to come, although we will to have to wait two months to see what happens next. The annual was visually appealing and the story was a fun simple concept. A powered down Superman and a squad of certified killers sent to kill Clark Kent. I figured it was an easygoing story until the very end. If you enjoyed the last arc and have a few bucks to spare, go ahead and pick this issue up. This Annual is cliched, predictable and even unoriginal.  You know what else it was?  Enjoyable.  I had a fun time reading it and even with it's faults, I recommend it to anyone who's been reading Batman/Superman or the Doomed story.  It has the added bonus of a crazy cliffhanger that sets up the book for a crazy return in June. Greg Pak (World War Hulk) infuses this story with continuing banter between Batman and Superman. Its lovely. In some instances, Batman is the overprotective big brother while Superman is the overly impulsive little brother. The art in this comic is amazing, all very vibrant and detailed without losing the essence of the characters slightly reminding me of Jim Lees work in Justice League. This can be attributed to a large number of pencilers and inkers assigned to this book. Surely, theres too many to list but the names that caught my eye included Ian Churchill (Superior, Deadpool: Sins Of The Past) and Mark Morales (Guardians Of The Galaxy, New X-Men). While not a must buy, big fans of the Worlds Finest should find the book enjoyable enough, with a twist ending to top. Read Full Review

So that is quite a way to end this issue, especially given we have 2 months of Convergence. Maybe this wound and the recovery is what leads into 'The Truth' and Superman's new look. After a lackluster issue with improbable action, I reached this ending and suddenly wanted more. I suppose that means it is a good cliffhanger! This was a fun comic. It was stupidly written and has some pacing issues but it was worth a once-over for sure. But some of the villains on the cover do not make it in the story. Obviously the Joker because putting the Joker in a comic without having a fleshed out and thoughtful plot would be considered sacrilegious these days. Although I thought we were going to get some resolution with the Phantom King, the plot mainly centers around Superman or rather Clark Kent without superpowers trying to help the town that Doomsday demolished back in the Doomed story arc. Without giving away too much, let's just say that Superman's new power forces him to be crafty rather than just punch through everything and it was interesting to see that. We are l eft with another cliffhanger just like with all the other books as we wait for the Post-Convergence DC. And Batman/Superman is probably one of the books I'll still have on my pull list come June. more

Ok
