Batman: Eternal #34

Whatever the shortcomings of the series, the issue must be judged on its own merits. Kyle Higgins delivers a satisfactory conclusion to the Hush arc while deepening the overall mystery surrounding the catastrophes striking Batman and Gotham. Most impressively, he does this while giving one of the best and most effective deep dives into the psychology of heroism and the Bat Family in years. When the series is done and the final reviews prepared, this will stand as one of the pivotal episodes of the entire epic story, a moment when the failings of the tale faded in an instant of resounding, and memorable, success. The storyline appears to be turning another corner, and now would be a good time to grab a few back issues and get into this book. Its seemingly found exactly what it wants to be and how it wants to get there, eschewing the more globetrotting, bombastic storylines for some real intimate, smaller-scale stories. Too many cooks sometimes spoil the broth, but thats of no concern here as the consistent quality of this book hasnt significantly wavered in several issues. Read Full Review

This was a very solid issue filled with engaging dialogue, riveting action, and its share of twist and turns. Eternal continues to deliver a strong and entertaining reading experience. While this issue did not wow me like the one from two weeks ago, it is still an engaging book worth your time and money. Read Full Review

Again the smaller cast this issue and the tighter plotting make this issue feel accessible to the new reader even if it is picking up in medias res. The set up for the next act is daunting enough to draw a new reader in. Batman Eternal continues to be a great Batman series with big ideas and quality execution. Read Full Review

Batman: Eternal #34 sets the next big story in motion, but it's a bit more than just setup.  Batman and Hush battle it out and another young person finds out how dangerous it is to hang with the Bat.  Everything pushes the story forward which is good, but also doesn't allow it to breathe on it's own.  Most reader's will already be invested in the story as a whole and should find a couple of things they like here and be excited to see where it goes. We've spent so little time with Batman in this series that nothing in this issue lands with any kind of emotional impact. Not him losing his company, not his boring fight with Hush. This is all just 'Paint By Numbers Batman', and it's just so boring. Read Full Review

This was such a kick-ass issue! The fact that is took 34 issues to completely dismantle Wayne Industries is beyond amazing! And the creative team showed no-mercy to Penny-Two!!

It's amazing how, week in and week out, the "Batman Eternal" team can craft a story that encompasses every aspect of Gotham City. Kyle Higgins, on script duties this week, delivers the first of (hopefully) a few confrontations between Batman and Hush. And while the confrontation is physical, it's the mental battle between the two that really shines. These two know each other so well, and Higgins is able to communicate that relationship well. Alvaro Martinez does a great job on art duties this week. His pencil work is great, and I have to give a special shout-out to the splash page of Hush sitting on a pile of weapons. Awesome. "Batman Eternal" is ramping up week to week, and everyone should be along for the ride. This book is highly recomme nded. more

While the issue may not be one of the best Eternal issues so far, it does deliver one of its more satisfying twists.
