Batman: Eternal #28

Tim Seeley gives fans a focused, action packed and humorous issue this week and I really liked it.  Selina Kyle finally agrees to take over the family business, but it's the Jason Todd/Batgirl part that I liked best.  Tiger Shark steals the show with his hilarious appearance and Meghan Hetrick impresses in the art department.  I wish Seeley and Hetrick were sticking around for a while, but that's not the nature of this book.  At least I can recommend this issue and hope for the best next week. This week brought a few scenes to a close weve seen in recent issues. Batgirl has been having the most trouble and deals with things her own way, and showing a similar desire to save the one you love Killer Croc takes things to the extreme perhaps something Batgirl might have done if not for the appearance of a friend. Settling in with series on a weekly basis has its pros and cons. It does move a bit slower than your average series, but the scope of the story is certainly much larger. While touted as turning point, and certainly it was, it seems things slowed down a bit this issue- Hush is barely mentioned. This is certainly worth reading, but a new reader will be not only confused, but left wondering if this is the pace of each issue. The varying pace is necessary for the gravity of the issue, but one hopes that the next issue will pick up the action and push things forward a little bit faster. Read Full Review

When Batman Eternal focuses on only one or two stories, when it actually seems to have some focus, it's not half bad. The overall landscape is still a mess, and very little of any of this has to do with Batman, but I can give credit where credit is due when the creative team produces an OK issue. Read Full Review

One of the better issues of Batman: Eternal recently. The script by Tim Seeley delivers in a lot of good ways, the art by Meghan Hetrick is really good, and the reveals are well earned. But, there are a few issues. The death of a certain character doesn't seem necessary beyond a shock. That said, it does look like it's going to be used to develop Catwoman's character, so that could be fun. The last page reveal has been spoiled for months now, because DC can't help themselves with their solicits (coming Monday!), unless it's the main Batman book. Actually, rather comically, the ad for the new take on the series is placed one page before the actual reveal. Some character moments feel rushed, and leaves one wondering where that's going to lead . Eternal has been very good about containing its story, but I'm afraid that we're going to see characters set up for great development, and then it will take place in their own titles. It makes business sense, but story-wise, it's a bit frustrating. All of this said, this was one of the better issues in the 20's for this series. Recommended. more
