Batman Beyond #6

Ultimately, this is a comic book about the fear that the people that you need don't need you. It's about needing someone or something who has no place for you anymore. Bruce believes Gotham and Terry don't need him anymore. Terry needs Dana, but he worries that his lifestyle makes them incompatible. He thinks he is ready to make a change for Dana, but we, the readers, don't know if he actually is. Ultimately, this story will be about whether or not Terry can make this change successfully and what that looks like. Read Full Review

At first I thought this issue was just okay but upon reading it a second time I've actually come to quite enjoy it. It has a little bit of everything. We get some fights with the League of Assassins, the return of classic Bruce Wayne, some relationship drama and questions that need answers. Read Full Review

This is a much better direction for Batman Beyond, and even though it took some time and growing pains to reach this point, I'm happy we're here. Overall, it's a strong issue, but sadly, the weakest aspect is (yet again) our title hero. No matter how good your book is, if you're lead character is the weakest link, that's going to create some problems. Are we sure we can't have Tim Drake back? Read Full Review

Doing little to advance the story forward, this issue spends time with the characters getting back to the way things used to be, which makes for some satisfying moments but doesn't feel as memorable as the last arc. The art was lacking as well. Read Full Review

The first arc of this book was well written and entertaining, but it had a definite problem in the art department, with strange angular faces and an almost unfinished approach to some panels. This issue is a marked improvement for the team. Here Bernard Chang is firing on all cylinders and showing us a sleek, not overly stylistic approach that he was just missing in previous issues. The team has seemed to gel and this book is much better for it. They've given us a solid story that simultaneously respects the past while building a new future. This is a solid first entry in the "RISE OF THE DEMON" story, but it is primarily setting up future books and doesn't present a full story on its own. Dan Jurgens handles the Terry-Dana relationship very well, but I'm not a fan of Terry's response (or lack of?) in the final portion of the story. However, this does its job in making me interested in the next issue to see how this will play out. Read Full Review

Man, is this a great jumping on point for new readers because besides for bringing everyone up to speed with what's been going on in this series, there really isn't much going on here besides for fight scenes that we don't get a background on and our hero making us think that he's a giant dope at the end.  The art in this issue looked great though and there were some genuinely "nice" moments on an emotional level, but besides for that........... not much else. Trying to relive my childhood through this comic and it's working out so far with all the characters introduced in Bruce Timm's original animated series have made a faithful appearance just like they were in the cartoon. However, blending this world into the Rebirth continuity can be a bit tricky. First since Bruce and Barbara Gordon are alive, it's safe to assume many people are also alive as well. As much devastation as Brother Eye has brought to this world, where are Dick Grayson, Damian Wayne, and all the rest of the bat-family? (Tim Drake is a bit iffy since he disappeared into thin-air and is presently Mr. Oz's prisoner in present time) Alfred is probably gone as is probably Jim Gordon but Damian should be in his what, 30's? He's a th irteen year old in present time Rebirth continuity. And unless Future's End still has bearing on this world, where are the other Justice League members? Terry was part of a Justice League in the cartoon and it'd be cool to see them make an appearance again. So far, this is the title I have the most questions with. more
