Batman Beyond #45

While many of DC's titles are great reads most of the time, Batman Beyond manages to maintain a high quality. Jurgens has managed to take a property that I only sort of liked and make it into one of my favourite titles. If you're not reading this title, I urge you to give it a look. Read Full Review

While I may have panned recent arcs in Batman Beyond, seeing the futuristic version of the Bat-Family (Terry, Batwoman, a grown-up Damian, Goliath, an older Grayson, Bruce in the chair) in action was undeniably awesome. Read Full Review

Batman Beyond #45 features a gripping first half that suffers only because readers already know the end result and a second half that loses itself a little in the resulting chaos. However, the stakes are at an all time high and I legitimately don't know exactly how our heroes will save the world from Zeh-ro's man-made ice age. With mindful art from Pelletier and sharp dialogue from Jurgens, Batman Beyond #45 overcomes its structural issues and delivers a piece of high stakes action with a surplus of character development for the series' side characters. I appreciate any story that makes an effort to show things we thought we knew in a new way. This future vision of the League of Assassins is a far more scary threat than the today's iteration. We're treated to context from earlier issues, and we see them at their worst here. Going into the final chapters, it seems that this may be a threat too great for even the assembled Bat Family, making ongoing reading even more irresistible. Read Full Review

While I did want more out of the big battle that this issue gave us, this was still a fun issue overall, that gave us some necessary background on the League of Assassins and what we're currently dealing with and showed us the debut of the new Batwoman costume.  I enjoyed the art for the most part here and look forward to seeing how our united Bat-Family plans on taking out their newest threat.
