Aquaman #12 is what every superhero comic should aspire to be. It has an excellent mix of action, intrigue, and romance. You get to see an excellent display of Aquaman's character as he puts on a number of different hats as he tries to put out multiple fires. The design is simple, making it easy to follow the story and the artwork has unique monster designs. You will definitely want to pick up this issue! Read Full Review

Phillip Briones is on deck for the art. Barring a few soft panels with character faces, Briones is up to the task and there's some nice expansive pages providing great scope to this pending war. The Deluge just got started, but I'm already swept up into what's looking like a great new arc. Read Full Review

It's a very action heavy issue, but it also looks at the politics of two states engaging each other in a war. What's impressive about Aquaman #12, is the accountability that comes with Arthur's mantle of King. The other members of the Justice League are all vigilantes and superheroes, but none are royalty. That's probably why the America government were so quick to point the finger when it came to the attacks. Even from a political view, this story still finds ways to be impressive. Is it possible that this series is a political message of some kind? We're not sure, but it's great to see that the writing doesn't shy away from coming to the series with a real-world approach. We're loving Aquaman's Rebirth series, and this issue is no exception. Read Full Review

The artwork for the whole Aquaman Rebirth series has been pretty amazing. Broines has done the art for several books in the new Aquaman series and they all have captured not just a rich vibrate pallet but some nice visual contrast between the surface and underwater realms. Although the cover and writing for the book are both excellent, the artwork for this issue edges out everyone else to take the winners circle. Read Full Review

We were promised a war, and a war we shall get! Some bombastic scenes and lots of intriguing avenues make for an exciting, compelling issue that's just what the doctor ordered after the meticulous set-up. The artwork looks better to me than usual, and it's never bad, so that's probably a function of how much I enjoyed this comic book. This issue was worth the wait! Read Full Review

Comics: The Gathering - Ian B

    Dec 07, 2016

Ultimately, I enjoyed this issue, despite the fact that Aquaman is more or less relegated to the background. This was an issue of mostly set up and consequences, where we got to see Aquaman at his most reactionary, attempting to get the situation under control as it obviously spiralled into chaos around him. This issue focused significantly more on him as a king, making decisions in a war room, rather than as a hero, and it was a welcome change of pace. I eagely await the resolution to this arc, and I expect great things from it and the stories after. Read Full Review

Comic Book Review (9/10) "Amazing" Aquaman #12 "The Deluge Act 1" Writer: Dan Abnett Penciller: Philippe Briones Plot: NEMO is attacking Boston and other US cities and targets to frame Atlantis. The US military has declared war is moving on Atlantis thinking that the Deluge represents Atlantean forces. Aquaman aka Arthur Curry and Atlantis must race against the clock as the defend themselves from American military forces while they look for the perpetrators... The issue moves along like "The Sum of All Fears" movie based on Tom Clancy's novel as Arthur is constantly racing against the clock to stop an all out war between Atlantis and the US. The comic feels like a political thriller and though this a setup issue, I can see where each p more

Great issue! This issue really did have a summer blockbuster movie feel and it kept me excited throughout the story. Stuff really hits the fan with the last page and I'm glad I only need to wait two weeks for next issue!

As always, Abnett does a good job directing various action scenes at once. I'm enjoying the direction he's taken with Black Manta leading NEMO, and it's fun the watch Manta and Aquaman tactical instruct their armies against one another.
