Pascal Alixe and Vicente Cifuentes are on penciling duties here with Pete Pantazis on colours and Carlos M. Mangual on letters. The art has a very rough quality to it, but it is undeniable that the final result is pretty striking in itself. Is this a mandatory read for FUTURES END? No, it doesn't appear to be, but it's still an engrossing experience which focuses on what Superman stands for without actually having the Kryptonian in a majority of the pages. It can be a little too blunt with its message at times, but it's still a good message overall and well worth reading if you're one of the people who wonders why Superman has fans. People not following FUTURES END will feel a little left in the dark, but overall, it doesn't take too much from the narrative and still feels like a satisfying and mostly stand alone read. Action Comics: Futures End #1 is well told story that brings an interesting focus on the current state of Clark Kent in Futures End. This is not the most explosive issue of the event thus far, but it enriches the Futures End experience by providing a welcomed look at the void and internal conflict of the world's most powerful hero. At the end of the issue I found myself far more invested in the status of Superman in the weekly title, so I'll call that a win. Read Full Review

All in all Action Comics – Futures End #1 was a good comic. Sure it had some mistakes, but it was better then what I would expect in a Futures End special. It's something you don't have to Futures End to get, but I wouldn't go out of my way to buy it. Read Full Review

Once again, if you're looking for an Action Comics book with heavy ties to Futures End you're going to be disappointed. While we get a good story it's not the one I wanted. I wanted one explaining what Superman has been doing during Futures End and why. I've read three of the Futures End one-shots released this week and only one has decent ties to the event. Maybe I'm misunderstanding the purpose of these books but I don't know what DC is thinking. If this problem persists it is sure to piss a lot of people off. Read Full Review

"Action Comics: Futures End" #1 isn't a bad comic, but it doesn't stand out either. It doesn't add much to "Futures End" (other than giving a tiny bit more back story to Superman), but it doesn't take away from the series either. It is worth noting, though, that this feels like a story that could have just as easily been told in the present day. Once you notice that, the comic suffers a bit more. Without that little glitch, this would have been a completely average, down-the-middle comic. Missing the whole point of tying into the timeline of "Futures End," though, feels like a wasted opportunity. A slight stumble for a comic that was already otherwise average. Read Full Review
