Action Comics #22

There isn't anything amazing about this story. The idea of two heroes accidentally mistaking each other for threats and fighting is as old as comics. But sprinkled into a blustering main plot are some nice moments of character, things I didn't see early in Lobdell's run. Read Full Review

ACTION COMICS #22 is a pretty good issue. Nothing really blew me away here. Lobdell's work is much stronger on SUPERMAN, but I have a feeling this issue was put together a bit quicker than usual since the creative team changed. Kirkham's art is really the stand-out here, and I found myself really enjoying the brief moments we had of Clark Kent being an average, everyday person. I wasn't into the Pax Galactica, although I really enjoyed the Battlestar Galactica reference thrown in at the end. Read Full Review

There's also a backup story about Superman's Kryptonian parents meeting for the first time, as well as the New 52 debut of a classic Superman baddie, but it suffers from the same problems as the main feature, not to mention it has the longest villain monologue in recent memory. Read Full Review

Tyler Kirkham's art stands out in panels involving the aliens of the Pax Galactica and the battle scene between Superman and Straith. Kirkham's artwork sets up for what will follow next as Superman will join forces with the Pax Galactica against the Lexus. Read Full Review

The artwork alone is worth the pickup of Action Comics #22. Despite the continuity problems and the Superman plugs, the story is heading in the right direction; it just wouldve been nice for these two Superman comics to be completely separate (as was originally intended). Read Full Review

Action Comics #22 is a failure. I don't see why DC continues to give Lobdell work. I'm done. From now on, no matter how much I'm tempted to give his work I try, I'm staying away. If you thought Superman #13 was bad... Oh boy. Read Full Review
