The best DC annual that I've read in some time. I wish DC would do this more often for the Annuals: use them as an excuse for the title's usual creative team to do something different instead of calling up some B or C list creative team to do something underwhelming and unrelated. Read Full Review

Action Comics Annual #13 is a very frustrating albeit interesting read. I'd much rather watch a writer take daring chances and shoot for originality than play it safe, and Cornell definitely doesn't play it safe with either of these stories. Unfortunately, there are far too many problems and missteps along the way to call this issue a success. Instead, I'll call it a fascinating failure – one that didn't much change my opinion of Cornell as a bold, original storytelling voice even if it brought him down to earth a bit in my eyes. If I were to venture a guess, Id say that the two stories contained in this annual were late minute editions to the Lex Luthor saga that Cornell has been crafting in Action proper. While that series remains a diamond in the rough, this book lags a few laps behind as a disappointing companion piece. Read Full Review

Ed Benes' does understated work here. It looks as though it was only pencilled and looks nice if unspectacular. So neither of these stories blew me away. Nor did they add much to the history of Lex. I'll be happy to get back to the current storyline. Read Full Review
