Action Comics #901
| Writer | Paul Cornell |
| Artist | Kenneth Rocafort |
| Cover Price | $2.99 |
We can't tell you much about this issue without ruining some of ACTION COMICS #900's surprises, but suffice it to say, Doomsday's back and you've never seen him like this before! Doomsday's first appearance brought about the "Reign of the Supermen," where four characters Superboy, Steel, Cyborg Superman, and Eradicator came onto the scene to try to fill Superman's shoes. Now, with "Reign of Doomsday," it looks like Superman might need to fill their shoes!

May 26, 2011I wasn't exactly sure what to expect from Paul Cornell with the end of his Lex Luthor story here in Action... I mean I liked most of his Lex work, but there were some parts that didn't do it for me, and with the idiotic direction DC has taken Superman in as of late, I'll admit, I wasn't expecting all that much from this series. Boy was I wrong though! This issue was WAY better than I expected it to be! Supes and company retreating from a multitude of Doomsdays, a huge threat to the planet, a new badass Supes villain, very good stuff here. Hell, maybe I'll drop the main Superman title and just stick with this series, because the quality difference between those two books is staggering! Read Full Review

Supergirl Comic Box Commentary - Anj
May 28, 2011Add to that, the incredible incredible art by Rocafort, albeit half the pages. I would love to get a Supergirl commission from him. That means this issue shows tremendous story-telling potential for this arc, maybe more than I expected. And that probably bumps the rating up half a grade. Read Full Review

May 25, 2011So after 901 issues, Action Comics is still going strong and is finally Supermans again. The Lex Luthor Black Ring storyline was interesting and well written, but I want to see the man who originated the book remain the protagonist of the book. As for Supermans return to the pages of his flagship title, unfortunately there really isnt much to get all hyped up about. We pretty much know how Reign of The Doomsdays is going to play out. It will be interesting to see what Cornell and Co. have in store for us in the long run, after Doomsday is defeated again. Read Full Review

May 25, 2011I'm chalking this one up to trying to shove a square peg into a round hole; a demand from upon high for a mini-event in a series that didn't need it in the slightest. Read Full Review

May 28, 2011Honestly, if this book wasnt following perhaps the greatest Lex Luthor story ever told, it wouldnt feel like such a letdown. But were following that great story with what so far is just another Doomsday story. Cornell is a fine writer and I have no doubt that hes got some great Superman stories in him. So far, though, this isnt it. Read Full Review

Heretical Jargon - Heretic
Jun 04, 2011I was kind of bored with the bulk of this issue. Superman and Doomsday have been going head to toe with no end in sight. At least his life long feud with Luthor has some life too it, Doomsday just keeps doing the same thing over and over again, and its boring! With the few minor golden moments, it doesnt really help this issues sturdinessor lack thereof. Read Full Review

May 27, 2011Reign of the Doomsdays may not be the worst crossover storyline DC has ever produced (e.g., Amazons Attack!), but it's a strong contender. I can't wait until Cornell can use his chops for something worthwhile again. Unfortunately, that's still at least three issues away. Read Full Review

May 25, 2011After an overall strong run on "Action Comics" over the last year, it's disappointing to see it collapse so badly here. Everything that made the book fun is gone, and what's replacing it feels like a dud. At this point, I'm willing to just wait until September when a new storyline begins. This was just painful.
