An entirely different side to our titular hero, it’s fun to watch Young Hellboy experience his first adventure and a previously untold chapter in his life. Hellboys age makes the story feel much lighter than typical fare. Now that the main Hellboy and B.P.R.D. stories have finished any excuse to travel back into that world for a new story is a good one, and the fact the story is so fun is just a bonus. Although we do get the ape on dinosaur violence (well-timed given the recent release of Godzilla vs. Kong), Young Hellboy: The Hidden Land #2 is really more about stepping back, providing some information about a new character in the vigilante turned hidden island's protector, and then setting up the evil which they will need to battle over the remaining issues as something dark stirs in the ancient temple calling out to the zealot who attempted to kill Hellboy. It appears the Ohnar have good reason to avoid the temple and I'm guessing Professor Bruttenholm‘s interest in it won't go over well with the locals. Read Full Review

The last pages of this issue certainly hijacked the type of story we started with, and it manages to swap genres from monster movie vibes to a more demonic showcase. This is the best Hellboy story I have ever read and it isn't even over yet ! Jumping from aspirations of Spielberg in the 1st one to being inspired by Conan Doyale and Planet of the Apes. And Hellboy is cute here, not saracastically annoying. The She-Devil is Ameila Earhardt meets the Hulk and Rousseau's art had me mistakening his pencil for Mignola's. And now the next issue is priming up to be the Universal Monsters re-make the world was hoping for. Since I was introduced to Hellboy as a kid, I always found his books boring - ironically, Hellboy as a kid, is the total opposite ! - Audiomack.com/cvrthebard
