This is a very gloomy, impressive start to the new story arc. I'm excited to see Edward's character develop a bit more"maybe he'll even end up working with the Brotherhood of Ra. The creative team has done a fine job of drawing us in; subsequent issues will tell if they'll keep our attention or not. Overall, I was impressed with the issue. I found nothing took me out of the setting the creators have designed. The hook of a first issue was set firmly, we are given enough back story to tantalize and enough mystery to want more. Mignola and Roberson have created a new series for Sir Edward Grey that is simply put, cool. I always love a good zombie tale, especially a period piece. TheWitchfinderbrand has always been steeped in the supernatural just like it's parent source material, Hellboy,and the writing tandem set the tone for this and future issues flawlessly. Stenbeck's art and Madsen's colors are perfectly muted to convey not only the aura of the past but the dingy feel of the subject matter, as if we are venturing into something that conveys the filth of resurrection of the dead and the dark magic needed to achieve such a feat. This series is only a 5 parter, butI am sure that it will satisfy those who choose to enjoy, fans of Hellboy or not. Read Full Review

Witchfinder: City of the Dead opens strong, pulling you into Sir Edward Grey's tangled world of the occult.  You don't need prior knowledge of the character or his previous endeavors.  At this point in his career, Grey is shaping up to be a hardened, skilled warrior of the supernatural, right up there with others from creator Mike Mignola, like Hellboy and Baltimore. If you love a story set in Victorian era London about flesh-eating corpses, occult detectives and practitioners of the dark arts, framed in a Lovecraftian way, then Witchfinder: City of the Dead is the series for you. Issue #1 has laid the foundations for a mysterious and gripping story that I believe will appeal to many. Overall, not a bad first issue, but this is likely to be a series I will not be continuing. It just lacks a lot of creativity and is far too similar to Sherlock Holmes. If you are looking for a detective story, then give this a shot. The price tag is not going to break the bank, so if you are curious check out the first issue and if you do not like it, then you are only out a couple of dollars. Read Full Review

Cover- 9.5 Art - 9.0 story - 9.0 Coloring - 9.5 Lettering- 9.0 Amazing painted cover by Julian Totino Tedesco, i sat and stared at it for 10 mins... Mignola books always feel lived in and characters have deep history and great dialogue. The set-up to this WitchFinder story has film beats and dialogue that reads like a script. The art team is outstanding! Everyone is on top of their game. If you are a fan of Sherlock-homes or Penny Dreadful you will love this series. I think i would like to see Gerard Butler play Sir Edward Grey.
