However, as I mentioned, lacking the proper allusion to define the nature of the undead horde, the issue does lose a lot of the meaningful subtext it was crafted with. There are still the hints of the meaning of zombies as western consumer culture, but they are understated to the point of being missed and unclear. If you're just looking for a good fun romp with cowboys, karate, ninjas, and chainsaws, there's a lot to like here, but if you are in the market for deeper analysis and subtext, you won't get what they're trying to say unless you track down the previous issues of The Shaolin Cowboy. But still, in terms of selling this as anything but a series of portfolio pages, it's decidedly disappointing. There's no plot here whatsoever, no hook to make you want to keep reading. The mocking nature of the first page having a random pin-up model being drawn in the foreground with the action blasting away behind her felt like another shot across the bow about the lack of plot -- and of course, it just went downhill from there. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only person who turned the page and audibly groaned when discovering that more of the same. If Darrow's goal was to make sure that no one asks for "Shaolin Cowboy" ever again, then I suppose that this comic could be considered a success. Darrow's succeeded in chasing me away from the new "Shaolin Cowboy," even though there's only one issue to go. What a disappointment. Read Full Review

. . . $4, 33 pages. NO ADs!Grade A cover! . . . Another AMAZING issue of SC! Goes great with Sepultura for soundtrack. Darrow is a powerhouse. Dave Stewart on colors is fantastic. You either get this, or you don't... best zombie book on the market. Best comic art and artistic determination in the industry. For Pete's sake reviewers, did any of you even notice the incredible pacing challenge of the turtle?? on top of everything else??? Comic Book Resources 's Greg is a moron, how did he get a pro reviewer job?? FTW!!!
