Star Wars: Darth Vader And The Ghost Prison #3

The things I really like about this issue (and this series in general) are the underlying themes. I think that those are what really give this book a serious kick -- it's what makes it interesting and entertaining. The central story, however, of Lord Vader's struggle to see Palpatine cured and the discovery of the Jedi Ghost Prison is very interesting. This comic book is bridging a lot of gaps and I think it's doing a fantastic job of it. Movies, novels, cartoons and comics are all having a hand in making this story gel together. This has been the best Star Wars series released by Dark Horse this year. Iron Eclipse is a close second but the period of time between Episodes III & IV will always have a leg up on drawing in Star Wars fans. Read Full Review

Even better, Tohm gets some much needed fleshing out along with Trachta as they swap "How'd you become horribly disfigured?" stories. Vader seems to surround himself with men as messed up as he is. This gives artist Agustin Alessio a chance to embellish in the macabre characters that populate this book. At times his painterly style feels unfit for this particular story, but when big moments go down he uses his talents to produce some emotionally striking imagery. If you're like so many other "Star Wars" fans who want to see Darth Vader unleashed, if even just a bit, then "Star Wars: Darth Vader and the Ghost Prison" #3 is worth the price of admission. Not only does it wonderfully revisit established Star Wars canon, but also deftly merges the Expanded Universe while delivering a solid story with amazing art. The Force is definitely with this book.
