Longtime Mignola-verse fans already know of this character's demise, Mignola himself says there can only be so many of these occult-infused, noir-bizarre minis before that last clip is spent, and the hand of Justice burns no more. But that's for the history fans. You don't need to know anything to devour this comic with relish and find yourself hungry for more. People, if you've never tried the Lobster, now is your time. Being someone who isn't too familiar with this character I really enjoyed GET THE LOBSTER #1 as my introduction. While you didn't personally get to know Lobster Johnson in this issue, Mike Mignola made it clear that if you're a person with criminal ambitions, taking Lobster Johnson out is of paramount importance. From the bizarre wrestlers, the dark seedy characters plotting from shadows this comic fits seamlessly into the Hellboy mythos. This was a fun, fast paced first issue, and Tonci Zonijc's art work made me feel as if I accidentally picked up an issue of Amazing Stories or New Detective. I am definitely going to pick up the next issue and maybe even try to track down other stories revolving around Lobster Johnson. Read Full Review

The artwork is very good, with its own unique stylized nature, but it's a stylization that doesn't cover up for inadequacy and enhances the mood and tone of Lobster Johnson: Get the Lobster (as does the coloring, which is just spectacular as always with Lobster Johnson). Overall great pacing, fun action, threatening and creative villains who skirt the line of weird and menacing perfectly, and a deeper mystery that looks to take the Lobster into uncharted aesthetic waters make Lobster Johnson: Get the Lobster a must-read for Lobster fans, and for those interested in the character, or who just like pulpy superhero action, consider this one highly recommended. It is a good little super-noir book, and the art delivers the deco-style with more modern-infused camera angles and illustration. I don't write this review lightly. Lobster Johnson, along with Mouse Guard, was last year's where-have-you-been-all-my-life comic. As mentioned, I'm praying that the longer run, which affords the creative team more time, explains away the slower start. "Lobster Johnson: Get the Lobster" #1 looks fantastic thanks to Zonjic, and that's the draw for now. Based on past performance I have no doubt that Mignola and Arcudi will pick up the pace and in a good way. They've done more than enough good comics together, after all. But with this slightly slow set-up, it's watching Devil Dwarf get thrown through the air that works, not his "Hee hee!" cries. Zonjic saves the day, here. Read Full Review

It's certainly a comic. Is it good? Eh. I wish I cared more about the mystery before Lobster Johnson, but I can't help but feel like I'd rather just go reread old back issues, or go read The Black Beetle again. Overall, this was a great installment in the Lobster Johnson title. This book is a great departure into the realm of pulp action for the Mignolaverse that retains the bizarre elements we all love about the world of Hellboy. This particular mini-series seems like it will go a lot deeper into the title character than previous stories, but at the very least were definitely in for an exciting read. Read Full Review

. . . $4 for 22 pages? NO thanks! i read through this at the stores but found it to be a real let down. Some folks will probably enjoy it, but ill wait for the TPB if at all. A real slow start & a price jump, Mignola's crew needs to stop resting on their laurels. Do they think we are mindless zombies who will auto-consume anything they shovel out?? Lowest score I've given a Mignola book, aside from those awful Sledgehammer44 swastika covered issues.
