I really enjoyed this comic, and while I have no previous exposure to Lobster Johnson, I found that Lobster Johnson: A Chain Forged In Life is a comic book that doesn't bog you down in previous story history, or deep character knowledge. Instead, this is a comic about a vigilante tracking criminals told largely from the criminals' perspective. I would also be remiss if I didn't mention that, despite all the fine work done before and after him, Tonci Zonjic has really solidified himself as the LoJo artist, and whenever a mini or a one-shot comes out without him on it, it somehow feels incomplete. I do have a soft spot for this type of book. In places it reminds me of Sandman Mystery Theatre, in style if not in substance. As a one shot, the book does well to re-introduce that character to those that may have forgotten him or to those that haven't read a Lobster Johnson book before. This comic is by four very talented creators, but none of them seem to bring anything extraordinary on these pages. That's a real shame; I was expecting something larger than life and enthralling but, ultimately, "Lobster Johnson: A Chain Forged in Life" is the very definition of average. Read Full Review

For fans of the character, seeing him pop up on the racks is always a welcome sight. Getting new material from this team of writers and artists is almost assuredly a book worth picking up. With A Chain Forged in Life, there is not a whole lot of excitement beyond that. While the writing is sound and the art is equally so, the issue certainly lacks a spark or moment of originality. So, while it is nice to spend some time in this world, the enjoyment of this reads lies mostly in that reaction. Read Full Review
