Even if you're not up to date with Hellboy's story I can't help but recommend jumping in to Hellboy: The Fury. For those afraid that they'll be lost, there is a thorough two page recap to bring you up to date quickly. Hellboy fighting for England where the world seems to be at stake as well is a pretty good hook for a story. Throw in a girlfriend, King Arthur, Excalibur and Nimue and you have the makings of something great. This arc marks what is sure to be the end of that story. If you haven't jumped onto the Hellboy bandwagon yet then this is your chance. I definitely recommend this comic book. Read Full Review

For anyone that doesn't regularly read Hellboy it should also be noted that the book does an excellent job of bringing potential new readers up to speed. In two easy to read illustrated pages at the start of the issue, readers are given "the story thus far." It's incredibly effective, despite the Hellboy lore being complicated at best. It surely beats retcons, relaunches, and reboots. "Hellboy: The Fury" is a great comic, that despite the character's intricate history makes for a great jumping on point for anyone that has been interested in the character and wanted to take the book for a spin. One of the things that made Hellboy such a hit was Mignola's minimalist, gothic artwork, but over the years, the design and the property have proven themselves to be versatile. Duncan Fegredo still instils Mignola's mark on the art here, but he also doesn't submerge his own more detailed style. I particular love how he depicts the old architecture and the English knights. It's such a lovely book, albeit in a dark way. Adding to the gothic effects are Dave Stewart's remarkably effective colors. the comic is full color, but often, it seems immersed in blacks and greys. Stewart is careful to employ dark but muted tones that are in keeping with the shadowy, pitch-black circumstances in which the title character finds himself. Read Full Review

It isnt Mike Mignolas fault that I havent been reading HellBoy recently, but I wouldnt recommend this for anyone completely new to the comic, if you have a working knowledge of HellBoy however, then Im sure you will enjoy this. I also expect bigger things to come next issue, with a more epic feel, that should improve on this first part. Read Full Review
