Nerdophiles - Jackson Adams
May 14, 2016It's a wonderfully realized tragedy, one that feels as pulpy as a story about an alcoholic demonic ex-luchador can be and as operatic as one about a doomed son fulfilling his father's promise could ever be. The art is wonderfully realized by Mignola and Dave Stewart's moody, impressionistic colors continue to paint a picture of Hell not solely as a biblical location but as a place of impending, inescapable doom. May 04, 2016By the time it starts snowing in the final pages of "Hellboy in Hell" #9, Mignola and Stewart have placed the proverbial cherry on the top of the sundae. As it drifts down over Hell's barren landscape, the scene ends with a note of finality. It's almost hard to believe there's still one issue left to go. Yet, considering how well Mignola has set it all up, that last installment is inevitable. Mignola gives his creation a chance to make Hell something different; it's not the destiny that fans might have expected, but it is the one that holds the most promise. May 03, 2016And now to the conclusion of this little opus. Hellboy is confronted with his destiny. He's told that he knows what he has to do and he has to do it alone. It is, all along, why he was born, why he died and why he is where he is. If he wants to rise above his circumstances, he has to complete what he has already attempted before he can attempt something new. Brilliant storytelling, we can't wait for the next issue. Fortress of Solitude - Jacques Cloete
May 16, 2016Mike Mignola, the creator of the series and its characters, clearly knows how he wants to end his run. The almost poetic writing is emotional, touching and thematic. Mignola wants Hell to change. Just like the change that a new season brings, with the snow beautifully closing one chapter, it promises a fall of something better for Hellboy and Hell.
