Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight #2
| Writer | Alex De Campi |
| Artist | Chris Peterson |
| Cover Price | $3.99 |
Just because Grindhouse #1 was the most messed-up comic you've read this year, don't think #2 can't top it! The bee vixens' queen is ten feet of pissed-off buzzing stinger, and the only one left to stop her is shotgun-wielding, motorcycle-straddling Deputy Garcia. Good thing she don't take no bull!
Eisner nominee Alex de Campi (Smoke, Ashes) is a writer to watch in 2013!

Nov 06, 2013Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight 2 is a strong end to the story Bee Vixens from Mars. It's a fun title in the grand old Grindhouse style and it could very well become my favorite new anthology series. It's obvious that the creators know and love this genre and are having a great time working within it. If you're a fan of late night cable movies or are old enough to remember going to the drive-in then this comic is for you. Highly recommended. Read Full Review

Nov 06, 2013Its admirable how good this second issue is. Really, the ability to communicate a story like this and not make it seem completely throwaway isnt easy. De Campi and Peterson forget the typical confinements of the genre and leave them in the dust. They embrace Grindhouse to its fullest and pull off one of the most enjoyable comics Ive read all year. I positively cannot wait to see what they do next. Read Full Review

Nov 07, 2013Peterson's art, with colors by Nolan Woodard, completes the package. All that ridiculous violence and mayhem that De Campi writes is brought to bloody life in a spectacular fashion. Peterson draws the gore with just the right amount of detail, as characters a ripped to pieces and devoured. The stories heroine is so kick-ass, she leaves a trail of gorgeous destruction that will suck you into every panel. Seriously, blood bathes are rarely this much fun, so do yourself a solid and buy this comic book. Read Full Review

Nov 05, 2013Grindhouse: DOAMbegins a new 2-part story next month, with new artist Simon Fraser on-board for two issues. I could happily follow this story's heroine through a few more issues, but sometimes it's nice to be left wanting more. Read Full Review

Nov 06, 2013I can't wait for issue three: "Prison Ship Antares." The title alone piques my curiosity due to the potential of this creative team and such an interesting premise. Read Full Review

Nov 13, 2013Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight is a series that has potential to be a fun look into the Grindhouse film world. Bringing a bit of over the top fun movie storytelling to comic books. Alex de Campi has the right idea with this series, tonally it is consistent and if you're into it you'll have fun. Overall I had a good time, though I'll say this the space story in next issue looks and sounds like a blast. Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight had a good first two parter, the next story looks to be one that I'm looking forward to immensely. Good start thus far for this new series. Read Full Review

Oct 31, 2013Is it high art? Of course not! And if that's what you like I recommend you stay away. But for the rest of you, the few of you, who live for the sexy thrills, the ridiculous explosions, and the messy gore, go grab a copy as soon as it hits the shelves! And welcome to the Grindhouse. Nov 09, 2013So that was a bit of a downer wasn't it? I was looking forward to reading this comic, but I didn't enjoy it half as much as I'd anticipated I'd would. Anachronistic, not that funny and with too much dismembered body parts thrown at me page after page, this is one I'll quickly forget about. And it all started off so well. Read Full Review

Nov 05, 2013But the issue on the whole just didn't do it for me. Apparently Grindhouse: Doors Open at Midnight is a series that will run a rotating but of shorts. Next up is Prisonship Antares. We'll see if they can recapture the magic of the first issue. Or maybe I'll just be in more of a mood to read it. Read Full Review

Nov 05, 2013Grindhouse movies succeed in large part thanks to the big emotions they invoke. Too bad Grindhouse #2 only got me feeling one thing in a big way: bored. Read Full Review
