    Comic Bastards - Dustin Cabeal

Now, if you read the first volume, you obviously will have a better understanding of this world going into Copper Golems. That doesn't mean that you need to have read the first volume to understand and enjoy this series. Kindt and Rubin go old school and make sure to re-explain the world to welcome new readers. It reminded me of what Magnolia has always done with Hellboy, in that you can pick up and read the series with any first issue or series and understand the world and characters. There's just a bigger reward for those that read everything. Ether is back in an emotionally devastating way, but I was happy to get wrecked by it. Read Full Review

The only problem with this book is that it moves too fast. You can read it very quickly. But that's okay. It hooks you like a drug and leaves you wanting more. Read Full Review

Kindt and Rubin continue their exceptionally high quality of storytelling with this kick-off issue to the next arc. The book is vibrant and eye-popping in the Ether, and downtrodden when in the real world, which adds a lot to the reading experience. Boone comes into contact with members of his family here, something we wanted to see in the first arc, so the payoff is already worth it. Lets see how Boone fares against the Copper Golems; I cant wait for the next issue. Read Full Review

Matt Kindt has me hooked on another of his books with Ether: The Copper Golems #1. The premise and characters are interesting. The art of David Rubin and Kiko J. Diaz is brilliant. This book easily earns a recommendation. Check it out this Wednesday. Read Full Review

The Fandom Post - Chris Beveridge

With a straightforward setup in place here, Ether: The Copper Golems does a lot of fun stuff in introducing us to Boone and what's going on with him. You get a good sense of how it moves forward from the previous series while still being very accessible to new readers (and making them want to go back and read that original run). Read Full Review

That said I like the concept and the world a lot. It got me curious about wanting to learn more about the world. I was a tad put off by how the magical creatures tended to talk more modern and cussed. Read Full Review

Once in the Ether, Boone's personality is markedly different. He is almost bubbly. He even looks a little different in the Ether than he does on earth. Here again, David Rubin's artwork is subtle and compelling. Even if the story and the character of the protagonist seem to be overused staples of comics and film, Rubin's pencils help to make the world of Ether something all its own. 3/5. Read Full Review
