This reads like a stake through the heart for emotional punch. This is going to take some time to recover from. I haven't seen the heroes this down in a long time. If you think things couldn't get worse for the heroes, they just got worse. Beautifully heartbreaking! Recommended. Read Full Review

Buffy The Vampire Slayer Season 11 #7 kills me because these are the kind of decisions our Scoobies have to make in a world that just isn't welcoming to who and what they are anymore. I'll be honest: My love of Buffy's universe probably leads me to score this series a little higher than I, otherwise, would. It's as if, just for existing...for giving me more of one of my favorite shows, each issue, automatically gets an extra point. Taking that into consideration, it makes my 7.6 score a little less impressive. SEASON 11 started strong but the last three issues have been slow and, a little, repetitive. With the exception of a few minor developments, the last few issues of BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER have seemed interchangeable. This might be ok in a full-length "season" but, considering we only have five issues left before SEASON 11 is concluded, this decompressed storytelling makes the story feel thin. Don't get m e wrong, the characterization, dialogue and artwork are as spot-on as always but I just can't help but feel the story is in a holding pattern. SCORE: 7.6 more

This issue brings one of the biggest problems with Season 11 into focus: the protagonists' lack of agency. We've already seen one major conflict point where the gang agonizes over whether or not to submit to the government's plans, and reluctantly decides it's for the greater good to do so; here we have another. This issue also undermines the only time recently that they *have* taken initiative; all of their clever planning and action last issue is rendered moot when what they learned is simply made public knowledge. (And I'm still unsure about the logic of using detainees to manufacture the magic draining widgets, rather than anyone else in the world). Maybe it's a more nuanced threat this time around, but it's not very engaging to wat ch the heroes behaving so passively. more
