If the terrors of this first issue are only precursors of what's to come, this is going to be an epic series. The Red King is taking more than his pound of flesh and only Baltimore and his allies can stop him. Perfect reading for fans of the supernatural. Once you start, you won't be able to stop. There's not much to dislike in this issue. Sure, Baltimore isn't as fleshed out for newer readers as he probably could be, but the way that the characters talk about him properly sells him as a big deal. It trusts the reader's power of inference in that way, saving room for the storytelling that it does so well and the world-building that it makes seem so effortless. For fans of the series, Mignola's previous works, or even Seven to Eternity fans, this is a must-read. For anybody else, it is honestly still worth checking out. Read Full Review

Baltimore is such a unique comic in the first place, picking up where the original novel left off, but this creative team deserves a lot of credit for keeping the story alive. The adventure itself is almost never pretty, but its artful nonetheless. If youve been reading along, then youll be glad to hear this may be the best arc yet. Ok. So this is a bit like an epic re-cap / passing of time issue. There's some really expansive battle scenes and there's a slew of characters exchanging their ideas. There's a bit of mystery involving an old foe and the rally against the crimson king is beginning. However I feel like this episode is pretty epic and because of this it's not really typical of the Baltimore series which to my mind is very gothic, slowly paced and staggered as our hero explores. So this episode very much feels like a primer for the final push to a conclusion. There's tons to chew on here and it's great to see everyone develop in time, but it wasn't really what I typically love about this series. Artworks good, although I think Ben Stenbeck might be my fav arti sts so a shame he's only doing the cover for this one. So basically, YAH IT GUD BUT NOT AMAZING BUT HEY THERES LOTS TO DO AND ITS DONE DIDDLY DONE WHAT IT GOTTA DO RIGHT! Ahem. If you compare this to the plague ships, it's certainly interesting to see how far we've come with this series. Now I gotta go out and kill a vampire, excuse me. more
