Comic Crusaders - Johnny "The Machine" Hughes
Nov 21, 2017This is the sort of book that you would want your kid to pick up. Clear good guys, clear bad guys and no ambiguity, told in an easy-going way. However, there are a couple of problems for Archie; firstly, despite being kid friendly the characters are not well-known and as such they may find it hard to compete with the Justice League or Avengers. The second is that whilst this style may well be kid friendly, there isn't quite enough cleverness to engage older readers. Graphic Policy - Brett
Dec 06, 2017The issue is a slow start. It takes a bit to get going, but when it does, it does so in a way that's unexpected. Instead of using action to distract and entertain, we're instead treated to the characters themselves and their struggle working together. Through the dialogue things are set up in a way that make them stand out and be intriguing. This will be an interesting one to watch going forward and see if it pays off in its promise. Comic Spectrum - Shawn Hoklas
Dec 10, 2017If you've never read any comics with these characters, you may enjoy this first issue as it is fun, solidly written and has some stand out art. But it failed to hook me and make me want to read more, especially since it feels disconnected from what I've read just a couple years ago from the Dark Circle imprint. So it is not that there was anything particularly wrong here, it was just a drastic change in direction from what I had come to expect from Dark Circle. I hope this series lasts longer than it has in the past and it finds the right audience of younger readers. Unfortunately, I won't be back to find out. Read Full Review

Was really looking forward to this since I adored the 2012 New Crusaders, also by Flynn, and the MLJ characters in all their past incarnations, from the golden age scans, to the silver age campiness, to the Rich Buckler-helmed eighties attempt (my personal favorite), to DC's Impact line, DC's 2nd attempt back in 2009 or so, and, most recently, the Dark Circle line itself (check out the Black Hood). I'm glad to see that Flynn has kept some of his own versions of the characters, though changing them slightly, but also that he integrated the 2015, Victoria Adams Shield (who deserved another chance)--and even that he's brought back a mysterious character called Darkling. I really like the "Daughter of revolution" storyline, so I didn't hesitated to take this one. At first I didn't like it, because that's too close (And less effective) than other Super-heroes' team from other independant editor. And I find it weird & too quick, the fact than Victoria was already both in the team & the team leaders. Like seen her relationship with Jospeh (Who's like a manager) & the existence of the team don't match with the "daughter of the revolution" storyline. But I like how their discution turn, and the end of the book. Outside Victoria, I like Darkling very much, the rest aren't enought original to be interesting for now. I also don't see the interest in having Steel Sterling in when his power are close to Shield's o more
