  The first issue of The Woods sold out, but you should be able to grab a second print with this issue. I would recommend you do that because this series is already proving to be one of the best of the year. As long as it finishes strong there's no doubt in my mind that it'll be appearing on my end of the year list in a least a few categories. Basically what I'm saying is buy this issue and keep buying.   In the best possible way, "The Woods" is a messy story. There are so many factors in play that it could pretty much go anywhere; but we're getting little hints as to which players are exerting the most influence, and that's what keeps our attention focused. At the same time, the woods themselves present a level playing field. There's all kinds of beauty and terror lurking in this forest, and its visual appeal engages the imagination. The feeling of chaos is this comic's greatest strength; a world this unpredictable is worth getting lost in. Read Full Review

  THE WOODS continues to be scary and inviting at the same time, and it's a really solid young adult read. Even if you're not such a young adult, it's enjoyable and interesting and thoroughly surprising. There's a constant feeling of "what's next?" and interesting characters that keep fueling that.   Again this is not a bad read but it's one that I am still not sure about. I recommend checking it out if you're willing to not think too much about the essentials. It still needs a few issues to find its footing and if you don't want to read something that takes a while to get a better understanding of what it is trying to be than you might want to stay away. If you could get around the negatives that I have stated above you could find something worth your time. It is an interesting premise and its ideas are all there. It just needs to get a little bit more minor touch ups and character development to make it a must read. Read Full Review

  Half of The Woods #2 is a very well told story, while the other half has ample room to improve. The comic as a whole is one filled with promise. Dialynas has shown great skill in evoking mood and Tynion's characters are a diverse lot capable of playing off one another in many interesting ways. Prez' equally disturbing and stark tri-color cover, which isn't directly representative of the events inside but still eerily captures the story's mood. "The Woods" #2 stumbles a bit with its characterization, but the tension and fear remain immersive, and Tynion and Dialynas combine for a story that's well worth staying with. Read Full Review

  Overall, this is not a bad comic. Its a fun science fiction read with some great action/adventure themes. Its also very appropriate for a general audience of younger teens, which is a difficult thing to find in the majority of creator-owned comics right now.   The Woods is a classic B-movie setup complete with cheesy dialogue and stereotypes, which sometimes takes itself a little too seriously, denying its true essence. As soon as this comic embraces what it is and drops hints to the audience that it is self-aware, I think it will take off as fun, grindhouse-style entertainment. Nothing more, nothing less.
