A new story arc begins in the 1920s where Annastajia, a once prominent beauty of the silent film era, must fight after a botched skin graft comes to life and grows its own body out of her features. On the other side of time, Lude, the offspring of a satyr, will find that the worst tragedies are riddled in the humor of being alive. Dec 31, 1969As fascinating as Andreyko's work has been, one hopes that he will soon move all of these characters ahead towards a story. Failing that, he could easily become the Marcel Proust of horror fiction. He has created depths of Midian and its inhabitants that are truly fascinating, and his readers have been fortunate to share in his vision. As intense and well-developed as it has been, there must be action. Regardless of the unbelievable quality of the exposition, the plot must move forward. Read Full Review

Comic Bastards - Samantha Roehrig
Sep 24, 2014Nightbreed has been a weird comic, but this issue truly creeped me out. It was the first of many I am sure. If you have been waiting for the comic to come along and slap some ugly monsters into your face, and not just physically but mentally, then this is the issue you have been waiting for. We The Nerdy - Ben Ecker
Sep 29, 2014The art duties are split, with Kowalski handling the present day and Lude's story and Javier doing the art for Annastasjia's. The two artists do not have styles that are very divergent from one another, so the change isn't jarring. Javier's slightly sketchier lines do work well with the 1920s setting, giving the switch just enough context with the narrative to work as an effect. For some odd reason Juan Manuel Tumburus has made the odd choice with his coloring to give each character a splotchy filter for their complexion. I initially noticed it during Annastasjia's segment, thinking it was meant to give an indication that she was, in fact, a monster. Then I realized that it covers all the characters. Then I went back and realized it's been that way in each issue. So, it's an odd choice to make with the digital color, but it's obviously not so glaring an issue that I noticed it before being five issues in. Read Full Review
