  Christine Larsens art is a delight and such a great fit. It quells my Steven Universe nostalgia, but is definitely distinct in its creative layouts, expressive faces, and humorous body language. The colors are bold and the letters are spot on. By Night glows in the midst of many of the other comics on the shelves. I am very much looking forward to the next issues. Read Full Review

  Black Nerd Problems - Khadjiah Johnson

  Outside of the storytelling, I appreciated the humor. It was dark and hidden at moments and I appreciated the subtlety. The dialogue was sneaky and snappy. It is sure to bring out a couple of chuckles during a re-read. When I finished the comic, I went back to see if there were any knee-slappers I missed. I cant wait to see what our duo unleashes.   It's a classic first issue that relies heavily on its setup, but Allison's penchant for well-crafted characters, strong thematic ties and eye for illustrious art talent makes this issue an easy purchase. The unique and otherworldly mystery, as well as the mystery of the characters themselves, makes this not only another Allison hit, but something new, exciting and inevitably rewarding for anyone looking for a new series to immerse themselves in.   Comic Crusaders - Jennifer DeRoss

  This is the kind of issue that just doesn't work all that well as a single, but it sets the stage well for the series and it will probably work perfectly in a collected volume. The last handful of pages are the only ones that really move the story forward because the character work needed to make me care about anything else is simply not there yet. This is not to say it was unenjoyable. It just needs a little more attention to details and a good polishing. I will definitely be looking for the next issue, but this one might end up being skippable as a single. Read Full Review

  By Night #1 is an entertaining tale about two estranged friends encountering something other-wordly and hopefully getting closer because of it. It's not the most unique or engrossing story, but John Allsion does enough with his characterization and dialogue to draw the readers in. There is room for expansion as to what is actually on the other side of the portal and what exactly are Heather's true intentions, so the series can go in a bunch of directions. Read Full Review
