A nice break before the Ring Of Fire story-arc begins in earnest, readers will find themselves warming to Kendra and understanding her better. It's a nice change of pace from the craziness of the Hellmouth event and lets readers have a minute to take a breath. Hellmouth is not the end of Kendra's story, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer #13 should make most of us comfortable with seeing more of her in what's to come. Once again this is a great time to be a Buffy fan when everywhere we turn there is something new to take in. Surely enough we all want to at some point see Faith introduced, though what's wrong with shaking things up where there was actually another slayer activated before her? Read Full Review

Compared to her work on last year's Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up With Me or recent Shortbox-published book, Valero-O'Connell's isn't as free-flowing, though she retains her intense clarity of emotion across the cast's faces. Coupled with Ral Angulo and Eleonara Bruni's luminous colors, this is in keeping with the aesthetic of previous arcs without requiring a complete upheaval of her style. Read Full Review

I do look forward to seeing where this new slayer takes the comic book series, as I am familiar with Kendras short-lived arc on the TV show. My hope is that the introduced diversity can be intertwined, and we eventually get Buffy back to create a powerhouse, Slayer duo. Read Full Review

Buffy continues to be distinctly out of focus and a meandering mess, leaving its lead character out of its pages for the sixth issue in a row. Instead of introducing the new post-Hellmouth status quo, it instead chooses to focus on Kendra to no appreciable gain. Fans would not be wrong for dropping this book from their pull sheet at this point. Read Full Review

This was a decent one-shot introduction to Kendra. I'm not a big fan of the art; since the excellent first arc the art on this book has become less impressive.

On one hand, I appreciate this one-shot. It helps us understand Kendra more as a character, something the TV show never bothered with. On the other hand, this series has a pacing problem and we didn't need an entire issue devoted to Kendra's character when that could just be established by working it into the current storyline. This is well-written, the art is fine, but the context concerns me.
