Writer Saladin Ahmed has created an intriguing and powerful character in Elena Abbott. You can't help but get wrapped up in her life and her pursuit for the truth. This puts her in danger and she's not going to back down any time soon. We get a ton of information in this issue about this case and it's done in an organic way that never feels like an exposition dump. For all of my gripes with Abbott #2 it is undoubtably a fantastic follow-up to an incredible first issue. Ahmed and Kivel deliver on a handful of the promises of the introductory issue while also bringing forth new mysteries and interesting characters that will only benefit the series in the long run. Unnecessary repetition and the wrong choice of opening and closing holds back an otherwise fantastic issue filled with exquisite paneling, fantastic character moments and an intriguing mystery. Hopefully the next one can recapture the magic of the first issue. Read Full Review

Abbott #2 is frustrating. It has a story baking underneath the supernatural elements, and the lead is a fantastic character with an interesting history that keeps coming back to haunt her. However, the supernatural themes feel like theyre hijacking the story, and the dialogue is daunting in its sheer volume. I can still tentatively recommend this one and want to promote its good ideas. This continues to be my favorite new series. Saldin Ahmed is off to a brilliant start to his career. Abbott is a vivid world with great character and mystery that grows thicker with each page. The art creates a classic throwback setting while capturing the tone and stakes with ease. Boom has a really special book on their hands. Pick this up
