Volition #1

This is a very polished introduction to this world which has an amazing amount of depth. The robotic leads are very engaging and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens when these two finally meet. The visuals are incredibly detailed, bringing this incredible world to life spectacularly. The visuals are so good, I'd love to see this collected in a larger format so that all of the details could be more easily examined. This is a dream for fans of science fiction: robots, mystery, and sumptuous visuals. AfterShock Comics continues to show it's a leader in world building books. Read Full Review

I am already in love with the concept, and with the art. I hope this will fill the void left by the end of Descender. Definitely worth picking up, if only for the art, but the story has layers that are only just beginning to show, and the intrigue of where it's going is going to keep me coming back. To try and reign myself back in, its unclear if this sort of output is sustainable through the span of an arc. To have such a cracking start is a double-edged sword as the team has set themselves a high bar to follow. That said, the preview pages for #2 strongly suggest this is one to jump on early. They've begun well, with an issue showcasing a natural narrative flow, elegant art, and some twisty bits to simmer on. We want to know more, from the process by which artificials create their 'children' to how coping with the plague of Rust parallels or differentiates from sad human handlings of our own pandemics. There's even an overall fostering of hope for this future, that while far from perfect, the conjoined forces of man and intelligent machine will do better facing such challenges than we have on our own.
