The art is keyed in to the tone of the story, done in as few lines as possible it seems which helps to create a suspenseful atmosphere. With very few extraneous details to look at, the reader is encouraged to zone in on the intricacies of the plot (and with The X-Files, there is no shortage of intricate plotting). This does make the characters difficult to distinguish in a couple of cases, but once they're identified, it becomes easy to follow who's who.

Overall, the book is cute and will probably keep the attention of a kid, but is going to be dull and feel a little forced for any adult reading it on their own. Taken as individual stories, the book excels as an introduction to comics and to each of the Super Hero Girls but when read cover-to-cover, it becomes trite and grating. The art is cartoony, and the way the story works out made me wonder why they didn't just make this story into a TV show, since that's what it feels like anyway.

The other two comics (Kroom part 3 and The Bounty Hunter) are certainly fantastical, but the art in the latter left a little bit to be desired. The characters were little more than outlines and felt really flat. It made the dialogue feel a tiny bit nonsensical, though the black and white format helped define the tone better.
