Scarlet Witch #4 is another stellar issue of what is set to become one of the Scarlet Witch's definitive solo series. Orlando, Pichelli, D'Amico, and Wilson give us the backstory and reveals we have been waiting for while setting up what seem to be very action-heavy future issues. This series continues to add new elements to both the Scarlet Witch's mythos and the greater Marvel Universes's mythos', while also staying familiar and accessible to fans of Wanda from both the comics and MCU.

Wasp #2
February 15, 2023
|
|
Ewing's expansion of pre-established but underdeveloped plotlines makes the story richer and more captivating. Also, he understands both the lead character and the supporting cast very well. They all feel like the characters we've grown to love, but they do not feel stagnant. Nie and Diaz deliver stunning art that complements the writing extremely well and portrays the characters in a sense where we can quickly and clearly tell what they are feeling.

Wasp #3

Wasp #3 is another near-perfect installment in Janet van Dyne's premiere solo comic series, giving us some much-needed payoff after the first two issues provided the setup. The fresh perspective on Janet Van Dyne is something I very much appreciate, and I know fans of her character will as well.

WithThe Avengers: War Across Time #2, Paul Levitz delivers a great sophomore issue to what is shaping up to be a classic Avengers series. The Avengers' dynamics are explored in the midst of the action, and it progresses the storyline, even if some might say it was filler material since the main adversary, Kang, was not featured.

Spider-Gwen: Shadow Clones #2
April 6, 2023
|
|
Spider-Gwen: Shadow Clones #2 continues an engaging storyline that is a must-read for Spider-Gwen fans. While it is light on the action sequences, it offers a look at Spider-Gwen's inner thoughts and develops Gwen-Ock. Unfortunately, Sand-Gwen gets the short end of the stick, but I feel she and the rest of the Gwens will get their moment as the series progresses. The bright, fluid art ties the story together, as it adds more humanity to the characters.

Dark Web: Ms. Marvel #1 |

Ms. Marvel: Dark Web #1 accomplishes what every successful event tie-in comic does: It's a piece in a larger story with big stakes and grand action, while also staying true to the titular character and giving them meaningful character moments and development. The comic also includes what fans of Ms. Marvel love about her, while also bringing in new elements to her world. Also, while it is best read in conjunction with the rest of the Dark Web event books, it can easily stand on its own. If you are a longtime Ms. Marvel fan, or just now looking to start reading more about the character, this is an absolute must-read.

X-23: Deadly Regenesis #2 is a great sophmore issue is a promising series that is already proving to be a series that will have a big impact on Laura Kinney's character and history. We get a look at the history of Haymaker, an iconic villian in the making, and how he connects to Laura. The art highlights the characters expressions and new costume designs very well. While this issue mostly gives us backstory and setup, it's clear the payoff in upcoming issues will be worth the wait.
